The grave in the rain
Chapter 1 The Grave In The Rain Lena’s POV “Lena, you should go and stand beside your father.” I heard Sofia say behind me I didn't turn around, the rain was heavy and my boots were stuck in the mud. I couldn't bring myself to leave my brother's grave, to leave him alone in the cold. “Lena.” Sofia called again but in a softer tone. She stepped closer slowly. “You have been standing in the rain for the past hours, you might catch a cold at this rate. "I know." The rain had been falling heavily since morning. It didn't at a point reduce in intensity, it was like the heavens knew the unfortunate event that was happening so they decided to send in the rain to help cool things down but it didn't. “Everyone has an umbrella, you didn't come with one?” Sofia asked as she brought hers to shield me from the rain. “I forgot mine at home, I couldn't go back for it.” I bit down my lower lip to the point I started tasting the metallic taste of blood, the wooden coffin was still there down the grave. Ethan was there, my twin was there, my other half. He was in the coffin and the rain was falling on it. I couldn't cry again. I had been crying nonstop for three days nonstop. My throat was dry and my eyes were swollen, my body so weak and empty. “Ethan wouldn't want to see you standing in the rain like this.” Sofia said. “If I was in his position he would have been standing here like this.” I said and she went quiet. Sofia stepped back as she saw my father approaching, she made a short bow to him before turning. I glanced up at him, he was trying so hard to be strong to maintain that Beta figure for the pack. “The elder wants to say some final words.” He said quietly. “I heard.” “Lena.” He called in a pleading tone, then his hand went to my shoulder. “Please Lena, come and stand with me.” I dragged my boot off the mud and walked back with my father. Elder Caleb after seeing that I was settled beside my father began his words, his words were of comfort, advise but my mind didn't stay there. It wandered off to the memories I had with Ethan, I could remember his laughter, his usual routine of dragging me off the bed. Ethan was the jovial nice twin, I was the quiet, no nonsense one, Ethan didn't deserve death. When Elder Caleb was done with his words, the warriors continued with the coffin. Soon the soil covered it. I could hear my dad stifle a cry which made my heart shattered. I reached for his hand and he took it and squeezed it softly. Pack members passed by us slowly, each of them touching my arm and offering words of condolences. Soon we were left alone, my father nudged us to go too. I bent down slowly and pressed my hands on the ground. “I am going to be very strong and I will make Alpha Zane Blackwood, his pack, every single one of them…” I paused and wiped the lone tear that had escaped. “I swear on your grave Ethan, I will make them pay with their blood.” I stood up slowly and walked away with my father without turning back. ******************************************* Three years later. “Again!" Master Oryn yelled from the podium. The sound echoed across the training hall, I moved swiftly but my sparring faster was already on me. He bent my angle, he did an accurate calculation, he kicked at my side and I let out a small gasp before catching his arm. Twisted it and bent him over with my hip knocking him down to the ground with a loud thud. I turned around and saw that the second warrior was coming hard at me. I turned quickly to my right side, dodged his attempt, hit my elbow around his hips, then swung him off his feet. He went down instantly alongside the first one. The warriors made their way as Master Oryn walked slowly to where I was standing. His arms were folded, he was a broad chested tall man and he had trained a number of strong Silver Moon warriors including Ethan. “Not bad Lena.” He said as soon as he reached me. Hearing that from him I knew I was done for the day, I nodded then stepped aside and went to where I kept my stuff, reached for my water flask and drank. My whole body was on fire, a serious ache and sore. “You are going to fall sick at this rate.” I heard my father's voice and I turned around. He was standing across with his arms folded watching me with worried eyes. “I am fine.” I whispered. "You trained six hours yesterday." "Seven." I corrected it. He exhaled slowly. "Lena." “I am becoming a strong father, you cannot argue with the fact. I am becoming what this pack needs me to be and what Ethan will want me to be.” I wiped my face with the back of my hand and placed the flask back. He walked closer and lowered his voice. "It is not your arms I am worried about." I looked at him then and I knew what he meant, he was sharing the same view as others. The opinion of Ethan's death had left me broken and worse and I might not be normal again. "I am fine." I said again even though he did not look convinced but he didn't say anything. My eyes caught sight of Damon coming towards us, I rolled my eyes seeing how he walked like the entire pack belongs to him. “Beta Carter.” He greeted my father as soon as he reached us “Lena, you did well in today's training.” He acknowledged and I shrugged. “What brings you to the training ground Damon?” My father asked and I caught a whiff of tension in his voice. “News brought me here Beta, the council summit has been confirmed and it's in some weeks from now. It will be held at the Greymond estate and all the thirty two Alphas are mandated to attend by the law.” He paused and then looked at me. “Alpha Reed has instructed that Lena will be attending too”. He said and I frowned. “Why?” My dad and I said in unison. Damon sighed. “Simply because you are the future Beta of this pack, you will have to learn how things operate up there.” “And Alpha Reed discussed this with you?” My father asked again. “Yes this morning.” Damon responded. He then turned around to leave but then he paused, his eyes meeting mine. “All the thirty two Alphas will be attending including Alpha Zane Blackwood of the Blue Moon Pack.” With that he turned and walked away. My heart started beating fastly, my hands tightened around my sides as flashes of Ethan's cold body came to view.
