Chapter 3 The Man She Hates. Zane's POV “This is the third time you'll be checking the reports this morning.” Kai said from where he was standing. “And I'm sure they have not changed. “Yes I know I'm fully aware.” I replied. “Then if you are aware like you claimed to be, why are you still reading ?” "You have checked the border reports three times this morning," Kai said from the doorway. "They have not changed." "I am aware of that." "Then why are you still reading them?" Kai asked. I placed the papers down gently on the desk and looked up at Kai, my Beta. His arms were crossed and he looked at me with that look he always gave me when he wanted to say something I refused to hear, but knowing Kai he will still say it nevertheless. “There was movement near the Silver Moon boundary two days ago, the northern patrol units reported it.” I said. “I just want to know what is really going on before we leave for the summit.” Kai sighed, walked inside and sat on the chair across from me. “Orvan already handled it, he said they were three scouts from the Blue Moon Pack but immediately our patrol unit got there and they retreated so it was nothing.” “Anything that has to do with Silver Moon has something suspicious.” I said and Kai sighed as he placed his hand on his table. “We will be leaving at dawn tomorrow and the report will still be here when we get back.” He said and I didn't say anything, I stood up and walked to the window. I took a deep breath as my eyes roamed around the territory. The training ground was still active, the warriors running around, moving around sparring intensely. We've been at war for seven years straight and instead of the pack being weak it wasn't. The war had made us stronger and every strike the Silver Moon launched made us better. "The pack looks ready for anything." Kai said behind me. "The pack is always ready." I responded. "I was not talking about the pack." I turned from the window. “What are you trying to say, Kai?" He looked at me strongly. “You have been in a very bad mood for three good days straight. And I'm certain that it is because the messengers brought news about the summit.” “I am fine and there's nothing wrong with my mood.” “You can't deceive me. I know when your mood changes and one of the few things that get you all worked up is when Silver Moon is involved.” He stood up and walked towards me. “I can see through you Zane so drop it.” I went back to the desk and rearranged the papers into shelves. “Silver Moon destroyed my family, destroyed families, innocent lives. Attending an event where they will be present requires that I make extra preparation on my path.” "It has been seven years, Zane." "I am aware of how long it has been." “Your bitterness is still like seven years ago.” Kai came back to sit down. “If this war should continue for the next few years we will never make peace.” “You don't get it Kai, they started it first they came at us first. There's nothing like seeking peace from a territory whose only thing they want is bloodshed.” I said and Kai kept quiet for a while then he stood up. He adjusted his jacket.”The people delegated to escort are ready, everything will be ready at dawn. I will confirm from the guards tonight.” I nodded. "Good." He gave a short bow and turned around to leave. He stopped when he reached the door. “Zane.” He called and I hummed in response. “Everyone in the pack respects Zane a lot but I think you've forgotten that respect and fear are two different things.” He said left before I could give him a reply. Kai's words stayed with me throughout the day. I kept on sighing and sighing over and over again until it was dark everywhere. I stopped working, packed my things then left the office. The atmosphere in the memorial ground was freezing cold. I stared deeply at the stone walls in front of me, on it were names that I could never forget. My mother, my father, my younger sister who was nine years old at that time and the eleven other family members who died also on the same night. I remained standing for a while just the way I always did anytime I visited. When I felt I had gathered the courage to greet them I spoke up.”I am going to the Summit.” “Silver Moon will also be there. I also heard that their Beta will be present alongside his daughter.” I ran my fingers around the wall. “I will never forget what they did. I looked over to where Mara's name was, she would have been sixteen by now I clenched my fist pain fully at the thought of that. After losing everyone I hold dear in my life I wasn't normal again. I became intransigent, people call it cold hearted. I became detached from everything seemingly emotionless. If I didn't allow myself to become that person there was no way Blue Moon Pack would still be standing till today. I removed my hands from the stone wall. “I promise you that everything will be over soon, every single Silver Moon member will pay for it.” I said, then walked away. Dawn came sooner than expected. We set out quickly Kai and I alongside twelve strongest warriors. The journey to the Greymond estate took four days straight. We passed through different borders. The guards at different territories straightened anytime we passed through the border. The name Blue Moon Pack alone spiraled fear Kai was right when he spoke about fear but I didn't care. Fear was needed in order to keep Blue Moon Pack free from enemies and invaders like the Silver Moon Pack. On the fourth day we arrived the guards hurriedly opened the gates for us to drive in, as we moved in something about the atmosphere changed, it was my wolf stirring. He had been quiet the entire journey and suddenly he was pacing around anxiously. I looked up at the hall and I knew at once that what was inside the hall isn't something good.
