Chapter 5
Enemy under the same roof
Lena's POV
“This can't be the only way.” My voice came out calmer than I was feeling.
I was now standing in front of the council, all the thirty two leaders were now watching me. It took all the training in me to prevent my hands from shaking.
Elder Drest looked at me with a determined face. “You can't bend the law, child.”
"I am not your child." I said I didn't know how to keep my calm anymore.
“I am just asking a sensible question. Six months of cohabitation can not be the only way out of all of this.” My voice almost came out in a pleading tone.
Elder Drest brought his hands together. “It is the only safe option for the both of you. This is a royal mate bond and it cannot just be broken immediately there will be severe consequences”
“Your bodies need some time to adjust and your wolves need time to ease the connection slowly. Six months is the shortest time for the severance ritual to happen.”
"Safe." I murmured.
“It is the only way we can keep you alive, it is the only alternative.”
I looked over to where Zane was standing, his arms were folded and his jaw tight. His Beta named Kai was beside him constantly whispering to Zane.
“I don't consider this as a solution.” Zane's Voi echoed across the entire hall. It was full of power and control.
He turned to face Elder Drest. “Do I need to remind you that she is Silver Moon? You are telling me to bring an enemy into my pack to my home.”
“I am stating the law.” Elder Drest retorted.
“She is your fated mate. The bond doesn't care about war or politics, Alpha Blackwood.” Elder Drest added.
One of the council members a woman also very aged came forward. “Cohabitation does not mean you have to love or get to know each other, it just means close proximity for six months.”
“After the severance ritual has been done safely, you guys are free to return back to your respective lives.”
Her words landed on me heavily, people started arguing heavily, the voice was coming more from the Blue Moon and the Silver Moon. Both sides were angry, arguing and both sides were saying it can't be possible.
Elder Drest raised his hand for everywhere to be silent and once again the hall remained quiet.
The decision is final." Elder Drest said.
"Lena Carter will accompany the Blue Moon delegation residing within Blue Moon Pack territory temporarily, this is council law and it will be respected."
I looked at Zane after Elder Drest declaration and he looked at me. He didn't say anything and I didn't say anything either.
I was sitting alone in the corridor trying to be strong when Damon found me. He sat down beside me, invading my privacy when I absolutely needed some time alone.
"Six months.” Damon said quietly.
"I know." I said.
“You will be inside the Blue Moon Pack for six months, you will be Inside Zane Blackwood's home do you know what that means?”
"I was there when they made the announcement, Damon." I reminded him.
“Think about what this means Lena.”
“I am.” I replied.
“You will be inside the pack, you will see their guard rotations, their meeting rooms, their Alpha's home. You will see everyone, everything the Silver Moon has been trying to understand for the past seven years….”
“You Lena will be able to get everything in your hands within a couple of weeks.”
I looked at him carefully. "You want me to spy."
"I want you to survive this situation.” He said smoothly.
"And I also want this pack to survive; these two things require the same information.” Damon paused and looked at me.
“Get close to Zane Blackwood, learn about his pattern, learn the Blue Moon weaknesses including their border schedules, their numbers and then you will report to Sofia through the channel she will set up.”
He placed his hand on my shoulder. “Can you do that?”
I thought about everything: the warriors who had died, the state of our pack, Ethan's death, my oath.
"Yes." I said because the opportunityu I had been waiting for was now offered to me on a platter and I would use it.
The council didn't give me time to go back home to pack my things. My father came to where I was standing and he looked at me for a while. I knew he wouldn't want to talk because we were not alone.
"Be strong for me Lena.” My father said finally.
"Always." I nodded and he pulled me to a tight hug for some time before finally pulling away.
Sofia rushed to where I was at and grabbed my hand. "I will set up the channel tonight.” She whispered. "Check the inner pocket of your bag in the morning."
"Be careful." I told her and she squeezed my hand softly and before releasing it.
I picked up my bag and turned toward the Blue Moon delegation without looking back at the Silver Moon banner.
I was at the back of the Blue Moon formation no one talks to me, I could feel the intense gaze of the warriors around me. Zane and Kai were at the front; they never looked back at me as we were moving.
I kept my head straight and my eyes forward. My breath came out uneven. I was going inside the enemy territory alone. There was no back up, no friends, nothing , just me. I was alone.
Along with the carving Ethan gave to me that was sitting inside my bag.
Around evening everything changed. We were almost at the Blue Moon territory, one hour passed and the pack buildings came into view.
Massive stone buildings there were several guard towers at each corner with different wolves matching and passing. When we got to the main iron gate it opened wide and we moved inside.
My wolf reared up at once sensing the sudden shift in atmosphere. The hair in my body rose up. Hundreds of people had gathered in the main path, warriors, pack members, Omega, all of them were watching.
And then I felt the cold hit and liquid on my body, children and some of the pack members were throwing eggs at me. I tried shielding myself with my hand but it didn't work, Kai yelled from the front ordering them to fall back.
I bit my lip. I was inside the Blue Moon Pack and every single person around me wanted me gone.
