I should not have been in that corridor the east wing was restricted. Zane had made that clear on the first day with the particular tone that did not leave room for negotiation.

I had respected it for three weeks because violating an obvious boundary early was poor strategy and I had enough to work with in the unrestricted areas but the painting of Victor Voss had changed things.
I needed the council correspondence files from the period that covered the war's beginning. Kai had said they were in the restricted back room of the archive. The archive connected to the east wing through a passage I had identified on my third day and filed away for later.
