5 - Show Of Strength

1918 Words
We arrived in a wide meadow and I can tell the werewolves had visited this place frequently. This place is filled with their stench. “Those that want to shift, can do so,” the King announced, and Ri does it too. I just watch them all shift except the king, Zeek, and Eliot. “Okay, I think we should let Eva fight,” Eliot suddenly says while looking at me. What? Why me? I glare at him and I can see it bothers him a little. “Sure, why not,” the king doesn’t seem bothered by this. “What? Why? I am not part of the pack,” I can not help but growl at this. “You are in this kingdom, you might as well do something to show us that you will not cause trouble,” Eliot said and I growled at him as I walked past him. I can see he is shivering just a little bit as I pass him. “What are the rules?” I asked before letting my human appearance disappear. I see Ri looking at me amazed. Even in her wolf form, she shows her emotions on her face too easily. “Treat it as a death match but you can not kill. You may let the opponent end up in the hospital,” the king gives the rules for the battle and I sigh at this. This will not end well for the pup. Like I know. My claws are pure silver, just like the silver highlights in my hair. I can also generate my own weapons, thinking that ability comes with my third mix. I think I am mixed with the dragon, wolf, and tech. A tech is a being that has a connection to technology and energy. That may also explain why I can upgrade things when I want to. I take a deep breath in again. “Ready,” I let them know, and the pup shifted. He is a big black wolf, like any other alpha in this world. I just roll my eyes at this. Why is an alpha always black? Eliot drops his hand and the pup and runs towards me. I made two silver daggers appear in each hand and as the pup jumped at me, I dodged him by ducking with a roll toward him and cutting him with one dagger over his belly. I looked back at the pup and saw his legs giving in and he flops to the ground, shifting back to human form. Naked and in pain. I next look at the crowd. Their mouths are open from shock. I let my dagger disappear and look down at the pup. “And you call yourself an alpha?” I asked disappointed and he just looked up at me, holding his torso as he bled. The smell of blood invades my nose, letting my eyes flicker to black for a second. I know it does that when I smell blood. I have seen it in a mirror once after a bully tried to beat me up but instead, I overpowered her. The gryphon guy walked up to the pup and studied the wound before the supernatural medics came. Apparently, he phoned them just as we arrived here. “Silver, so the silver on you is not just for show,” he added as he nodded for the medics to take the pup. “He was cut with a silver blade,” he informed them too so that they can know how to treat his wounds. “Well, my appearance is a warning on its own,” I added and he just gives me an approving smile. “I did not expect that from you,” the King added as he looked at Zeek before they took him away. “What? Thought I would lose?” I asked and suddenly the king was in front of me. I feel pain in my tummy. I can not help but look down, only to see the king has stabbed me in my stomach. I can not help but put my hand on his. I look back up at him, I can taste blood in my mouth. “And why do this?” I dared to ask. I am curious about it. Ri shifted back to her human form and is running towards us. “You can kill any wolf if you wish and I don’t know when you will do so. Rather kill you now before it happens,” he growled and I can not help but laugh at this. It is painful to laugh though. “And what if I were part of your pack?” I asked and he narrowed his eyes at me. Studying my face. I can not help but smile at this stupid thing. This silver blade won’t kill me. “And here you are, walking around with your custom-made silver blade too,” I pull the blade out, blood coming up, causing me to cough. I show Ri to stop and I let the blood flow from my mouth. I need to breathe soon. I feel the blood stop and pull up my shift, looking at the wound healing. I looked back up at the king, giving him the best evil smile I have. I know all my teeth are sharp and I am not scared to show them right now. In my true form, I am definitely not human. I can not even hide it. “Do you really want to make an enemy out of me, Alpha King?” I asked as I saw the shock on his face. “Unlike your previous mates, I can not die by death like this or an illness,” I dare to say with confidence and suddenly I realized what I have said. “Oh, s**t. I shouldn’t have said that,” I can feel my face turning red. I look away from him and I am going to run away now. “f**k,” I start turning around and I bolt away, shifting into my beast form. A winged figure with the body of a dark and wings like a feathered dragon. I can hear Ri shouting my name but I will not stand for it. I will not admit that the king is my soulmate. I don’t want a soulmate. I don’t care for it. I am doing great on my own. Soulmates make you weak. You lose yourself. I like the person I am. I don’t want to change for someone else. I won’t allow it. I have been running for hours, trying to escape the past. I know it will not work, but I like to think I can. By the time I am home it has been past midnight and I can see no lights on. I only smell Ri here. That is a relief. I teleport to my room and hear Ri move in her room. She opens my door and I see the relief on her face the moment we look at each other. “Eva, I was so worried. Are you okay?” She comes in and hugs me. During these three weeks, she is the only one I am allowing to touch me. strangely, I didn’t hurt the king though. “My defensive spike did not activate with the king,” I can not help but blurt that out and Ri looks up at me. She is a little shorter than me. I am 5.3 ft and she is about 5.1 ft. “What? Yeah, now that you mention it. I did not see them activate automatically,” Ri confirms what I already knew. “Dammit, he is my soulmate, isn’t he?” I sit on my bed with my fingers in my hair. Frustrated by this discovery or rather proof of what I knew deep down. “He may turn out to be a nice guy,” Ri rubs my back and I want to cry. “I don’t want a soulmate. I am fine being alone. I don’t want to change,” I stretch to her shoulder and can not help but cry about this. I can hear Ri chuckle at this. “What?” I will not ask why she is laughing directly. “What do you find so funny?” I added to make sure she knows what I want to know. “It is nice to see you like this. You always have your walls up and to see them down like this makes me feel less alone in the world,” Ri said happily and I can’t help but smile at her. I guess she is right. I do try to keep everyone away from me. Not everyone accepts my true appearance. “Okay, don’t jump to conclusions just yet. Let's see what happens,” Ri is trying to comfort me by being positive. Now our roles are reversed. Funny how that works. I nod at her before moving back to my seat on the bed and wiping my tears away. We laugh about this and this makes me feel better somehow. The next day I tried my best to not let Cassy or Eliot see me. Ri helped with that but it did not go that way during lunch. They spotted us in the cafeteria of our medical building since the two of them have classes within this building. I am not sure what they are studying. “Hey, guys,” Cassy is the first to greet us and I just nod at them. “Good, I wanted to let you know that the king has invited us to visit the castle this coming weekend since it will be a long weekend,” Eliot added while he took his seat and I just ignored those words. This weekend is 6 days long since the world will be remembering the previous queens of the kingdom. On the 6th day is for the unborn child he lost during the car accident. “So, uhm, Eva. Are you sure about my dad being your soulmate?” Cassy had to ask the question I was hoping no one would ask. “Yeah, her automatic defensive spikes did not activate as it usually does,” Eliot brings his hand close to my arm and my spikes appear. They are as thin as needles and they move with the one who wants to touch me. “Oh, wow. How do you manage crowds?” Cassy seemed okay with this. Does their kingdom have this kind of power too? “A lot of concentration. That is the reason why I am so tired after classes and walking around. With you guys, I am a bit more relaxed letting this slip,” I explained and Cassy smiled about that. “That is enough proof for my father to believe you about this,” Cassy nodded in approval and I showed them no with my head. “I don’t want a soulmate. That part just slipped out,” I hit the table with my hand. “Eva, you agreed on seeing how things go,” Ri’s voice is calm and I hate her at the moment for reminding me about this. “Fine,” I gave up on arguing with them about this for now. “But we will be taking my car,” I added before we start eating.
