Chapter Seventeen

I opened my eyes tiredly, raising my hand to my neck upon remembering what was happening. A frown crossed my lips when I saw I was alone, hearing only the sounds of the machines around me and the voices in the hall. That's when realization kicked in and I shot into a sitting position, looking down at my body with wide eyes before darting my gaze around the room. Everything appeared so advanced, bright, and extra detailed. I slid off the bed, looking down at the metal tray sitting next to it that held two syringes and a cloth, spotting my reflection and gasping. I jumped away before reluctantly looking back at it. My blind eye was identical to the other. I can see again. I smiled, hearing the door open so I turned to it and watched Wayne walk in with a smile of his own. "Good mor—" he came to an abrupt stop, his smile falling and mine did the same. I scrunched my eyebrows and frowned, taking a step back against the bed in discomfort. "Your e-eye... it's healed," he stammered, seeming surprised, then he walked over. I felt ice wash over my veins the closer he got and I winced when he extended his arm toward me, stumbling over the wires behind me. I felt extremely exposed and vulnerable being alone. "Oh, my apologies for startling you, Luna," he moved back, analyzing me with a frown, "may I see your eye?" I looked around the room, hesitantly nodding and climbing back onto the bed. He came over after pulling gloves on and tilted my head back so the light hit my face, cautiously lifting my left eyelid then moving to my right. "This is fascinating," he mumbled, releasing me and flashing a reassuring smile, "are you feeling any discomfort by chance?" I shook my head and his smile faltered again, "I don't mean to sound rude... but you can speak now, ma'am." I shook my head, my lip quivering as my body became hot out of nervousness and tears filled my eyes. He took the hint and nodded without saying anything more, looking to the door just as this gorgeous woman walked in. Her eyes met mine and I instantly recognized her as Axel's sister. "How's she doing? Is she experiencing any strange side effects?" She walked in with a smile, raising her hand and waving at me. Wayne cleared his throat and pulled off the gloves before responding. "Things have gone too well," he sighed, beginning to wash his hands, however, his words made her frown. "They're mates, Wayne, destined to be together forever. They fit together like puzzle pieces and stick together like magnets, obviously his blood is expected to heal her without any negative consequences. Where one lacks, the other compensates," she laughed nervously and I felt my heart start to beat faster, my anxiety raising at the sound of their worried tones. "I understand the matebond, Ms. Gabbie," he paused, drying his hands then pushing his glasses further up the bridge of his nose, his eyes jumping between us, "what I fear is his wolf may be able to access her mind and communicate with her." Excuse me? "Oh s**t," she gasped, her beautiful silver eyes widening, "Axel will f**k you up so bad if he finds out his wolf can talk to her! Dax is so intense! This will humiliate him!" She burst into loud cackles, covering her mouth to muffle them and keeling over, clutching her stomach. "I didn't say for certain, there is only a possibility. I need to run a few tests to be completely sure before I release her, just don't say anything to the Alpha until this is figured out," he groaned, opening one of the drawers yet an abrupt sharp, tightening pain began throbbing in my head and forced me to look down with closed eyes. "Luna?" Shuffling was heard and I fell back onto the bed, clutching my temples and pulling at bits of my hair in attempt to ease the pain. That's when it suddenly came to a dead stop and I relaxed slightly, anticipating it to come back. 'Mate?' I jolted at the sound of another male voice and sprung into a sitting position, the previous tears in my eyes evaporated as I looked around me in confusion. 'You can hear me? Ah! I've been trying to talk to you for soooo long but Axel won't let me! I love you! I love you! I love you! I love yooooooooou!' "Luna!" I blinked, furrowing my brows with a frown full of panic. My eyes landed on Wayne and Gabbie, both of them staring down at me with worried eyes. "Dax pushed through," he stated and she took a seat next to me, pulling me in for a side hug that made me a bit uncomfortable. "How is this possible?" She asked, rubbing my back the same way Axel always does and I felt instant relief. "Our wolves aren't really in our heads, Ms. Gabbie, they're in our blood. When I injected Axel's blood into her, I not only healed her injuries, but opened the door for Dax to reach out to her. I underestimated the amount of power Alpha blood truly carries and..." 'Blah, blah, blah! He just loves to babble. I bet he saves money without needing to buy anesthesia, that's for sure,' he joked and I smiled at his words. 'So my name's Dax! I'm Axel's wolf, cutie-pie! You're Angelica, which I think is such a beautiful, unique, amazing name, just like you!' Marshmallow's real name is Dax? 'Marshmallow? Aww! That's so adorable,' he paused, howling, and it made my entire body erupt in tingles, making me grin to myself with a slight blush taking over my cheeks, 'you gave me a nickname already? I'm winning! I have the best mate ever! You're so cute! I love it! I love it! I love it! Never change, my lovely Angel! I can't wait to see you again!' "Axel's going to kill you," I overheard Gabbie giggle and I looked up to see she and Wayne were now standing by the counter. At that moment, the door flew open and everyone jumped, our eyes landing on the man standing in the doorway. "Speak of the devil," she muttered, rushing over to me as if she thought I was afraid of him, but I just smiled despite the killer stare he was giving Wayne. His mere presence makes me happy. "A-Alpha! I was just about to—" he shut up when his cold stare never lessened. "Give him a break, Axel, he deserves a bit of leniency for helping heal her," she chimed in, rubbing my shoulder and giving it a tight squeeze. He averted his attention to us and stiffened, our eyes locked immediately and my smile widened. He looked much more attractive than he did before, which I didn't think was possible, and I found myself already walking up to him. "What..." he exhaled, shock covered his features and he raised his hands to cup my face. I placed my hands over his and continued to smile up at him in admiration, purely lovestruck with just how much more real he was now that I'm seeing him with both eyes. He's changed my life more than he will ever realize and I owe everything to him. He's all I've dreamed of as a little girl plus more. "Th-Thank you," I said quietly, blushing ferociously at the sound of my voice and looking down in embarrassment. I was surprised I was actually able to speak, but for it to be completely different than the girls I've met here is absolutely mortifying. They had deep, authoritative, slightly raspy voices, while mine is quiet and soft. He will never want me to speak again for sounding so powerless compared to them. I disappointed him. I was taken by more surprise was when he suddenly pulled me into his chest and slid his arms down from my face and around my back, hugging me tightly then pressing his face into my hair, inhaling deeply. "You sound so beautiful, oh my god..." he groaned, squeezing me tighter and my worry vanished up until Wayne interrupted. "There is also something you should know before you become too committed, Alpha..." He released me with a low growl and Wayne signaled him over, the two of them retracting themselves from the circle we once had and standing as far as the room would let them. "She's incapable of bearing children, Alpha," he said quietly as though he didn't want me to hear and Axel clenched his jaw. "I'm not rejecting her," he replied in a harsh, yet hushed, tone, "even if she was, it'd be her choice. I would never just expect her to carry my pup, Wayne, I do not own her." "B-But sir, you need a child—we'll need a future Alpha. Your mate is supposed to provide children for you and the pack!" He yelled in a whisper. "She's my highest priority, not my selfish needs. I understand your concerns but I'll figure it out, and if you ever say she's supposed to do anything again," he paused, shooting his hand out and grabbing a fistful of the collar on his shirt, yanking him up to his level and making his eyes widen. I couldn't hear what was said and my frown deepened, watching him release a pale, horrified Wayne with an annoyed expression and another growl. Nervousness caused goosebumps to trail down my arms and I swallowed to ease the burn in my throat, looking over at Gabbie just as she looked at me. She must've caught the discomfort I was feeling because she closed the distance between us with a huge hug, "Axel, bro, chill dude, seriously. You're freaking her the hell out." Before anyone had time to respond, a loud noise echoed through the room and a red light began flashing. I jumped further into Gabbie, clenching onto her then flinching when the door flung open and in ran Blaine. "Alpha! The hunters escaped from the cell!" He said frantically. "That's it!" He snarled, his sliver eyes flashing a darker shade, "I'm going after them myself since you guys want to be incompetent!" He shoved past Blaine on his way out of the room, sending him into the threshold of the doorway and a strange heat flushed me. He's extremely quick to hurt others just for my protection... Why do I like it? Is it wrong that I like it?
