TessI walked down the aisle with my beaming proud and extremely dapper father, watching the smiling faces of family and friends.
This was supposed to be the happiest day of my life and all I could think about was how the wrong man was standing at the end of the aisle.
“Who gives Tess away in marriage to this man?” Father Ahern asked
“Her mother and I,” my father, Reg spoke up.
He then let go of my hand, kissed my forehead and handed me off to Grier. I handed my bouquet to Lindi and joined hands with Grier.
We are gathered here today to celebrate with Grier and Tess as they proclaim their love and commitment to the world. We are gathered to rejoice, with and for them, in the new life they now undertake.
Father Ahern discussed the importance of marriage and how it’s not always an easy road, but it’s one that’s well worth the hard work and compromise.
“A good, strong marriage must be built on a solid foundation. One of trust, love, compassion, appreciation and forgiveness,” Father Ahern read from his sermon. “Marriage is not just about finding a person to spend the rest of your life with, it’s about finding the right person, the right partner.”
After Father Ahern’s introduction, my Aunt Rosetta did a reading.
“First Corinthians Chapter thirteen, versus four through eight reads: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast… Love never fails.
All this talk about love is making me nauseated.
After the reading by my aunt it was time for the vows, we decided to just stick with traditional vows and ring exchange.
“Do you support this union and affirm that these two should be married today?” Father Ahern spoke to the church.
“We do!” the guests yelled in unison.
“By the power vested in me, I now pronounce…”
“STOP!” a voice came from the back of the church as all the guests gasped. “I object!”
“What the f**k? You’ve got to be f*****g kidding me.” Grier huffed.
