Chapter 7: Normal School

After paying for the items, we quietly went to the car. None of us was talking. Draevon kept glancing at me but haven’t spoken a single word. It's as if he wanted to check on me but is respecting my privacy. I checked for my phone only to remember that I tossed it in my bed. I gently bit my lower lip in frustration. Defeated of having nothing to much to do, I decided to just stare at the window and hope for the best. I rested my head and closed my eyes as my eyelids have turned heavy. I was ready to sleep when I felt a warm hand placed at the top of my left hand. I looked at our hands and then placed my gaze into Draevon. He looks at me and gave me a smile before turning his gaze back into the busy road. I can’t help but smile with the thought of him being overly concerned. Few more minutes and we have arrived at our place. Draevon honks simultaneously so Amara could open the gate but she haven’t shown up. "What's taking Amara so long?" Draevon asked impatiently. I shrugged my shoulders in response. "I'll just open the gate, Draev. I don’t think she'll open it for us any sooner." I did not waited for his response and just opened the door and crawled out. I opened the gate just like I told Draev and then closed it again when he's done parking the car. We carried the groceries inside the house and placed it to the kitchen counter. There we saw our busy Amara. Messy hair buns, face filled with flour, her eyeglasses a little bit fogged up, and her apron in a total disaster. Despite the mess she's in, she looks hot. A total wife material indeed. "Sorry for not opening the door." she said with an apologetic face. "It’s fine." Draev replied and then turned his back on us making his way to the stairs. Probably going to his room. "Have you bought everything from the list?" I was about to ask her about the list but before I could even spurt a word, it already came to my senses that she's talking about mom's checklist. "Oh, yeah." I answered. "Great." she said with a clap. "Would you mind putting them in the fridge?" she said before turning her back at me to get some orange juice. "Want some?" she raised the juice bottle right above her head and I just shook my head in response. "No, thank you." She shrugged her shoulders and then poured out the juice in her glass. I checked the groceries and started to get them on place. After fixing everything, I went to the living room and switched the television on. I searched for the anime entitled Another. Been seeing this in so many social media platforms and I think it's time for me to watch it too. I was in the middle of watching when Draev suddenly joins me. "Another?" he asked making sure he wasn't mistaken. I nodded not letting my gaze away from the tv. "Nice choice. I really loved the way Sakuragi died." He said before leaning back at the sofa. Who's Sakuragi? I asked myself but I chose not to ask it out loud or I'd get everything spoiled. Besides, I'll know whoever that is after watching the anime. Episode 1 is nearly finished when Mara came in with a tray. It has a platter full of cookies and three cupcakes. She left it at the table in front of us and came back to the kitchen. After too long, she came back with 3 glasses and a Hershey chocolate milk. "Shall we?" She asked. Without answering, Draev digged in and get himself a cupcake. He may be the oldest but he's still a kid. Mara smiled and asked, "How was it?" Draev just looked at her with a goofy smile and then we figured out the rest. It's still the best. I reached in for some cookies and took a bite. "I heard mrs. Page is getting ready for her flight to Japan." Mara stated after a bite of her cooky. Mrs. Page is my teacher. I’ve been home schooled since I was grade 2 and it was always her that teaches me. "She haven't mentioned such thing." I said casually. "Maybe she's there for a vacation?" Draev butted in. We just earned a shrug from Amara. "I'm not sure. I just accidentally heard it when I was washing the dishes this morning." she responded. "Let's just wait for mom and ask for the rest of the story." Draev suggested that we all agreed in. I checked for the time and it's already 6:57 in the afternoon. Mom should be home any sooner now. "I'll just go to my room." I told them before standing up. "Okay." Draev said and I saw Mara nod. I made my way to my room and tossed myself to my bed. I rolled like a kid and closed my eyes. Knock! Knock! Knock! "Seiya, it’s time for dinner!" Mom shouted from my door and I checked for the time. 8:45. I haven't even realized that I fell asleep. I sat down and stared at nothing for a minute or so before I finally decided to brush my hair and go down. As expected. They are all waiting for me. "Come here, dear. Let's eat before the food gets cold." Dad said that I obliged. I scooped in for some rice and partnered it with fried chicken. "I heard mrs.Page is going for Japan." I started while my gaze were at the food. "Oh. So you heard." Mom said in a casual manner. "She got a job offer there, sweetheart. And yes. She grabbed it. You know?" mom gave a sweet smile. "Japan is mrs. Page's dream destination. It's a total win for her." "She's staying there for good, I suppose." I said before drinking a glass of water. "Yes but don't worry, Seiya. I'll be sure to find another teacher for you." she gave a reassuring smile. "Or maybe a good school." dad suggested that made me look at him. "Seiya is turning grade 9 by next schoolyear. I don't think she'll find it hard adjusting." he said. "But dad-" Draev tried to oppose but was cut off by dad. "Seiya's big enough to handle her own." "I don’t think we should pressure her." Mom said. "I'm not pressuring her. I'm just plainly suggesting." Dad responded. "What about her trauma?" Mara asked with her voice full of concern. "Mara, that incident happened 7 years ago. I know she can manage." Mara was about to say another word but she didn't get the chance. "Seiya is an independent woman. I know she can outdo what you all think of her. Right, Seiya?" he asked while staring directly to my eye. I wasn't sure how to play this game. I really don't want to step out of my comfort zone but Dad already insisted. No matter what happens, it's still him that is in-charge. What good can it bring when I say no? "Well, I think normal school doesn’t sound so bad." I said wearing a convincing smile. Mom sighed in a defeat. "If you really think you're ready."
