Before I could walk off, Raymond yanked me back, like he was enjoying my frustration. He started explaining. “No, it’s not like that. Anna’s the one who can tie up the loose ends about you. If she’s got something on you, she might know more than we think.” His eyes softened, filled with nothing but me. “I’m just worried about you going in too deep, Caitlyn. This investigation... it’s too much for you to handle.” I stopped resisting for a second. I didn’t know how to respond. But then, without thinking, I bit his lip. Hard. Until I tasted blood. Raymond just let me do it, but I could tell he knew exactly what I was thinking. Like he always did. But in the beginning, he never wanted to tell me his real thoughts. Did he ever consider that I might stop talking to him if I knew too much?
