Chapter 44

907 Words

It was around this time that I ran into Sondra. We were on our way to Choices for our Friday night beer. She was standing beside the door. She stepped forward, saying, “Could I talk to you for a minute?” Walking past me, Larry said, “We’ll be inside.” “This won’t take long,” she said. “You’ll never know how sorry I am about what happened between us. It was all my fault. I tried to make you jealous, but I made a mistake. Since we divorced, I’ve never been attracted to someone like I am to you. I know I’m older, and I hope I’m not making a fool of myself, but if you want, maybe we can start over again.” With that, she handed a slip of paper. “That’s my home phone,” then she put her head down and started to walk away. “Sondra, wait!” I said. When she turned, I could see she was crying.
