Selena POV:
I had fallen asleep in the car without even knowing. I only woke when Raze slammed the door as he got out. It jolted me awake and I looked around in a panic. I watched him stretch by the lake and I got out of the car and tried to not slam the door but failed. He turned to me and smiled, with the sun's reflection shimmering in the background, he looked like a poster of what summers should feel like. "Good morning sleepy head," he said playfully and walked over to me, "where are we?" I asked and he smiled, "just a small piece of land that I own in the Eastern Moon Pack," I looked at him puzzled, "why do you own land?" I asked and he smiled at me again in this weird way that made my stomach tie up into knots, "well, I'm a business man sweet heart and this pack needed my help once so I helped in exchange for a small piece of land." "That was awfully kind of you," I commented, not sure how to approach the topic. "I'm sure that you have your own questions for me," he said as he took my hand and lead me to a cabin close to the lake, "don't worry, this is mine too." I didn't say anything as we walked into the wooden house, it was furnished and clean and so very warm. The sunlight filtered in through the many screen doors, giving off this kind of rustic vibe. It made me feel so calm and warm.
"Do you like it?" His voice was right behind me and it made me jump, I had forgotten he was here. "It's really nice," I said and he smiled at me, "thank you, you're very sweet." I smiled back at him politely, feeling awkward again. "Selena, I should explain my weird behavior towards you," he said after clearing his throat, "maybe we should sit," I was kind of afraid for what he would or could say, after all, we were alone together and quite far away from the confinement and comfort of the pack house. He gestured for me to sit on the blue suede couch and I did so, feeling anxious to hear what he had to say. "From the moment I came to this pack, it was purely for a business transaction because like I said, I do a lot of dealings with packs and when I saw you..." he trailed off as he stared at me with adoration in his eyes, "yes?" I asked and he smiled and looked away, "I knew you were my mate." His eyes were sparkling and his smile was back but I was shocked by his confession, "what?" I asked in disbelief, "I know it's a lot for you to take in," he said as his hand found mine on the couch, "but when you turn eighteen, you'll see." Something did not feel right. "I don't know if I feel anything for you," I blurted and for a brief second his smile faltered and I could of sworn his eyes flashed red but in a blink of an eye, everything seemed normal again, "it's okay, you would only feel something after your birthday but for now I would like the chance to woo you, that's why last night, I wanted to take you away from here and if you would still want to..." My head was spinning.
It was so weird because my stomach was in knots and I knew that I didn't feel anything for him. I felt different with Ethan than with him. Maybe I wasn't giving him a chance because of the intimacy I had shared with Ethan and instantly I was wrecked with guilt. "This is a lot to take in," I said and he nodded and shifted closer on the couch, "don't take it all in now," he said with a warm smile and again, I felt this weird calm, sleepiness taking over. "Is that all you wanted to tell me?" I asked as I pushed through the tiredness that was lulling me to sleep. "You are not safe in this pack," he whispered as his hand went to rest on the back rest of the couch behind me. "How so?" I asked as I felt my pulse increase.
He had a look of worry on his face, "I'm not sure I can tell you right now," he said, standing up and turning around. "You aren't ready to know that yet," I felt annoyed by his response, "then why bring me here if I wasn't ready?" I asked, "because we are safe here from prying eyes and listening ears," I narrowed my eyes at him as I tried to decipher if he was telling the truth. "Okay and when do I get to leave?" I asked, something did not feel right. "If I'm not safe here, why can't I leave right now?" I asked, he smiled at me a pitiful smile, "I had to pull a lot of strings to get you here and still I fear that they might be watching us." My eye lids felt extremely heavy and I was struggling to stay awake, the last thing I saw was Raze smiling down on me.
