CHAPTER 13Miles’s phone rang as he was getting ready to check out of his hotel. The number with the 312 area code looked somewhat familiar, so he accepted the call.
“Hello,” Miles said.
“Hi, Miles. It’s Audrey Drummond. How are you?”
“Fine. To what do I owe the pleasure?” Miles wasn’t sure he wanted to know the answer.
“First, I want you to know that Ken is fine. Second, I have a favor to ask.”
Miles gave a sigh of relief. “I’ve been really worried about Ken, so thanks for the good news. What can I do for you?”
“Before Ken went on his assignment, he told me about your upcoming investigation in Mexico and how it would facilitate a vacation there for the two of you. Sorry we messed that up.” Agent Drummond sounded genuinely apologetic.
