So, we landed on what seemed to be a military base—though it didn’t appear particularly high-tech. In fact, it looked anything but futuristic, more like a rusty, desolate place. The landing platform was surrounded on all sides by military-style barracks, buildings, and garages—a jumble of militaristic structures that, it turns out, look the same in every part of the universe. The gloomy sky spat a light drizzle onto the ground. “Not glamorous,” I muttered, which earned me a powerful kick in the back, sending me flying down the entire ramp in one go and crashing onto the concrete, painfully scraping my knees.
