The following days tore me apart with contradictions. On one hand, I hoped Kal had managed to escape and was now watching the base from some hidden spot. On the other hand, his absence should have been discovered long ago, and an alarm raised. And this lack of alarm worried me a lot. I was granted permission to leave my room, roam many areas of the barracks, and even walk a bit in the yard—though, of course, not everywhere.
