Chapter1
Violet’s POV
"Another stressful day at work," I groaned to myself, feeling frustrated as I pushed the door to my house open.
I felt pain from every corner of my body; I had taken on more part-time jobs than I could handle, but I didn't have much of a choice. I needed to work to make Georgie more comfortable at my home.
As I walked towards the bedroom, I heard his voice coming from inside. “Why don't we meet up soon and have a good time?” he said to someone he was talking to over the phone.
I was taken aback by his words. Who could he be talking to? Instead of standing at the door and eavesdropping, I walked into the room.
He looked shocked when he saw me and quickly said to whoever he was talking to, “I will call you back.” He hung up and smiled at me, standing up from the bed to give me a hug, which I returned softly.
“Who were you talking to?” I asked, curious.
“Oh, it’s nobody,” he quickly brushed aside. Then, looking excited, he added, “Today is your payday, isn't it? How much did you make? I need some money to go out with my friends.”
I smiled at him as I reached into my bag and handed him some money.
He took it, saying, “It isn't much, but it should do,” before walking towards the bathroom.
“I need to take a shower; I will be out in a bit,” he said as he disappeared into the bathroom.
The smile on my face immediately faded as my eyes traveled to his phone lying on the bed.
I picked it up, glancing nervously at the bathroom door, afraid he would come out any minute.
He had been acting suspiciously lately, and I had a feeling he might be cheating on me, but I didn't want to believe it.
I quickly typed in his password, one he didn't know I knew, and glanced at the bathroom door again, my heart pounding.
I first checked his i********: messages but found nothing important. I logged out and checked his other apps but still found nothing.
Finally, I checked his call logs. The most recent one was a number saved as “S.”
I checked the messages between them and couldn't believe what I saw.
Nude pictures she had sent to him, along with his flirtatious responses, explaining what her photos were doing to him, it was disgusting.
My heart shattered into tiny pieces as I glanced back at the bathroom door, hoping he wouldn't come out anytime soon. They had planned various meetings, always when I was at work, busting my ass to sponsor his expensive lifestyle.
She would often ask him for money, and he would give it to her without hesitation, the money I worked so hard to earn.
Leaving their chat, I decided to check more messages. What I found broke my heart even more.
The chat between him and another girl showed they were engaged, a union arranged by his parents.
He often told her he couldn't wait for her to come back home so they could get married as soon as possible. I had thought he was going to marry me.
Georgie came from a rich household, and I was just a normal girl who had found herself lucky to date someone like him.
The reason he was relying on me was because he and his father had gotten into a fight three months ago, leading to him moving out.
His father froze his account, and he had to move in with me. I loved my boyfriend, so I worked hard to sponsor his expensive lifestyle because he claimed he was too important to do menial jobs.
Georgie walked out of the bathroom wearing shorts, using a towel to wipe his hair.
His smile disappeared immediately when he noticed his phone in my hand. He stormed towards me, grabbed the phone aggressively, and glared at me. “Who the f**k said you could go through my phone? Are you crazy?”
“Georgie,” I said, feeling nothing but pure sadness. I choked on my words, trying to find the right thing to say.
“You are cheating on me, and not only that, you are getting married? To someone else?”
"Well, it's nothing, just some dumb marriage my dad is forcing me into. I promise I don't care about her," he said, staring into the mirror as he wiped his hair. But I knew he was lying.
From the messages, I could tell he did more than just care about her. "Don't worry, I am just going to marry her for the public. I will keep you around always, you know."
“What?” I asked, trying to process his words.
This man had told me countless times that he couldn't imagine a life without me, and now he was saying he wanted to marry someone else and keep me on the side.
“What are you saying? But you said you were going to…” I choked on my tears, unable to speak as Georgie looked at me and smiled.
“Oh come on, you can't be serious, Violet.” His eyes scanned me from head to toe before he added, “You really think I am going to marry you? I might have considered it if my parents didn't have a problem, but they would. You are not really what a man from an influential family like mine would marry.”
That explained a lot. We had been dating for almost five years, and he had talked so much about marrying me, but he had never proposed.
He had never even seriously considered it.
“So you are telling me that all this time we have spent together was just fun for you? You don't see a future for us, but you went ahead with this? I work my butt off every day these past few months to make you happy, and in the end, I am just a tool for you to mess around with?”
“I didn't ask you to do everything you did. You did it because you wanted to, not because I forced you.
“You were the one going out of your way to be a typical lover girl, and you blame me like I begged for the scraps you threw my way? Don't be ridiculous,” he said in a tone that made me stare at him, shocked. Was he really saying all this to me?
“You didn't ask me?”
"Yes, I didn't ask you to," he shot back, running his fingers through his hair.
"Don't you use your head for once? Yes, I was interested in you when you were actually pretty, but have you taken the time to look at yourself in the mirror recently? You don't even look like the woman I asked out all those years ago."
I looked at him, tears rolling down as I listened to his hurtful words.
"The woman my parents want me to marry is more of a woman than you are. She's pretty, has a first-class honors degree in law from Harvard, and is already a CEO at her parents' company. Tell me, would you leave someone like that and marry what anyone would call a total downgrade like you?"
His words shattered my heart into pieces. Was he really saying this to me? “I am not trying to be rude or anything, but I just feel like someone has to slap you in the face with the truth."
"But why are you saying all of this to me? I have been nice to you, Georgie," I said, walking closer to him, trying to fight back the tears.
"We have been dating for over four years, Georgie, four good years. You said we were going to be together forever and that we were going to get married. Why are you hurting me like this? Please stop if this is a prank."
"My father and I did some talking, and he said I can come back home next week," he replied casually as he put on joggers before picking up a top.
"I will be leaving your house very soon, and you can be all alone. You can either agree to the way I want to live my life, or you might as well get out of it and stop being a complete nuisance."
I don't know what came over me at that moment, but I stormed towards him and delivered a hard slap to his face, pain fueling my actions.
"You f*****g bastard!" I yelled as I tried to slap him again, but he grabbed my hand and pushed me backward aggressively, causing me to fall harshly to the ground.
"Lay those filthy hands on me one more time, and I will make sure you don't have hands," I spat, seeing his anger rise.
"I was being nice before, but now I just have to ask, who the hell do you think you are?" He yelled at me, his voice filled with anger.
"May I remind you that you were nobody when I decided to ask you out? All you had to your name was your looks, which captured me in the first place. But now, look at you.
Have you noticed I don't take you out on dates anymore? That's because I would rather be caught dead than be seen with you. And when I try to find happiness elsewhere rather than dealing with your boring, ugly self, I am at fault?"
He paused for a moment, his words tearing my heart apart.
"The audacity of you to think I would give you my last name, the audacity to think I would leave a woman like the one my parents chose for me and marry a nobody like you, is astonishing. Who the f**k cares if we have been dating for years when I don't even consider you as my girlfriend talkless the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with?”
Tears rolled down my cheeks as I gulped, trying to process his cruelty. His phone rang, and he checked the screen, smiling as he answered.
"Hey baby, I will be there in a minute, just taking care of a little minor inconvenience," he said before ending the call. “I will be out tonight, need to have some fun with someone more deserving”
I nodded, finally understanding the situation. Rising to my feet, I wiped my tears with the back of my hand, my chest aching.
"You are a horrible person, Georgie, and I hope you feel the pain I am feeling now tenfold," I said, storming towards the door. I opened it, ready to step out, but almost bumped into some men standing by the entrance.
They were big and grumpy-looking, like hardened criminals, and their appearance terrified me.
"Who are you people?" I asked, confused, glancing back at Georgie, who wore a stupid smile. I tried to get past them, but they blocked my way, refusing to let me through. Fear immediately took over me.
I turned to look at Georgie, asking, “Georgie, who are these people, and why are they not letting me go?”
"Oh, I forgot to tell you," he replied nonchalantly, "I borrowed some money from loan sharks and used you as collateral in case I couldn't pay back. But I doubt you are even worth the amount I borrowed, but you will have to do."
My mouth fell open in shock. Was he serious or was this some kind of joke? “You used me as collateral for loan sharks?”
He smiled and said, “Of course.” He paused before adding, “Now you're all theirs, and they can do whatever they want with you. Even if they want to cut you open and sell parts of you, you're all theirs.”
