O’Grady POV
We were on the road again. Chancey slept soundly, I had a sneaking suspicion that Detective Sierra Ryans would do everything she could to get Chancey without giving me what I want. I need that information, I wanted to learn from a master and by the looks of his victims he was for sure a master and I accidentally uncovered his dumpsite. I noticed that Chancey was acting a bit strangely when she was talking to her father earlier. I was listening to see if she was trying to tell him where she was in some kind of code but I couldn’t tell. She was acting like a scared little girl that wanted her daddy and mommy. I focused back on the road and put all my suspicions about Chancey to the back burner. I had to get my prisoner to an isolated place where her parents would have a hard time finding her. I originally planned on killing Chancey when I got the chance but something kept stopping me from completing the kill, which is very unusual for me!
I kept driving for 10 more miles then came to the warehouse that I had bought from my brother Brent, years ago. No one knew of this location so I could finally get a good night’s sleep once I lock Chancey into her room. She was sleeping in the passenger seat so I scooped her up and brought her into the warehouse. She never stirred once as I carried her up the stairs to the 2nd room on the right and opened the steel door. I placed her small body on the bed and got her ready for bed. I pulled the blanket up to her chin and tucked her in. She just looked so innocent that for a moment I questioned whether I would be able to get rid of her if it came to it. Caught off guard by my own thoughts I shook my head and exited the room. I shut the steel door and locked it with an industrial size pad lock. I then went to my own room and shed my clothes to shower. I stayed under the spray of hot water and let the hot water do its thing and ease my tensed muscles. I then toweled myself dry before dropping into bed. I was asleep before my head hit the pillow and I was not prepared for the dream that was about to happen.
I was somehow in a field and it was pitch black outside. I felt like I was in danger but could not see any immediate threat so I stayed on high alert while I walked forward. It felt like I was walking for hours before I came upon a young girl standing alone. She didn’t move as I neared her then I recognized her, it was Chancey. As I neared her she began to change. I saw black wings sprout from her back, she grew in height to almost 6’. “Chancey?” Her name slipped from my lips before I could stop myself. She slowly turned around to face me and what I saw terrified me to my core! She had blazing red eyes, red fiery hair that was literal fire! She grew very long fangs and talon like claws. Smoke began to furl around her that seemed to spread in circumference from her body!
She floated near me but just before she reached me I was woken up by my phone ringing. I sprang awake covered in sweat. I couldn’t calm my heartrate down it was as if I had actually been in that field. I looked around and finally calmed down when I realized that I was still at the warehouse. I threw my blanket of and swung my legs over the edge of the bed. Something felt weird, like my feet had been covered in mud so I looked down because I knew that it was impossible. What I saw sent me into a panic, my feet were covered in dried mud!
I immediately ran down the hallway towards Chancey’s prison. I unlocked the steel door and pushed it open just enough to see inside, Chancey was laying down on the bed fast asleep, no wings, no fangs and no fiery red eyes. Something is very wrong here. After making sure that she had not changed I shut and locked the door again. I looked at my watch to see that it was 3am. I haven’t had a nightmare since I was a child, this fact unsettled me very much. I walked back to my room and splashed my face with cool water. I looked at myself in the mirror. “Get it together O’Grady!” I just needed to focus a little longer then I will be taking revenge on Sierra for killing me brother!
I laid back down and fell back to sleep, however restless it was. I was back in that damn field but this time I saw a male figure with its back to me. I didn’t want to near it but my body was moving on its own. Something was pulling me to the male figure. When I was within reach he suddenly spun around and I came face-to-face of myself! I looked more demonic than usual. I stared in stunned silence. The evil me laughed an eerie laugh that sent a shiver down my spine. “What an imbecile my meat suit is!”
My shock quickly turned to outrage/. “Who the f**k do you think you are?!” I said as I lunged towards myself.
The evil me disappeared into a dark smoke that swirled around me. The smoke whirled faster and faster until the oxygen began to evaporate from the space around me. It became harder to breath and I felt like I would pass out very soon when suddenly the smoke disappeared and left me gasping for air. Once I pulled enough air into my lungs I looked around and found that I was alone. I felt the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and I felt this presence coming up behind me at fast rate. I jumped to the side and spun around to face my attacker but there was nothing there!
Such a fool!
“Who are you? I know that you look like me but I’m a little confused.” I decided to communicate with this entity,
Brent was a much better vessel than you, but I have to use what was dealt to me. You need to start awakening your abilities!
“What abilities are you talking about? I’m only a human, nothing more! Brent was no better than me, he didn’t even last all that long before he was cut down by a woman!” I was beyond pissed now, I wanted to strangle this fuckhead with my bare hands but I remembered that I was only dreaming.
Don’t you feel a darker part of you trying to break free? You are a true monster if you let the darkness in.
I scoffed. “Right, and I’m the tooth fairy!” I sneered but was cut off guard when I felt a grip on my neck, cutting of my air flow! Black spots danced around my vision as darkness closed in on me. I felt like this might be the time that I finally die, the only regret I have is that I didn’t kill Sierra like I promised Brent. I sprang out of bed gasping for air. My vision began to clear as my breathing calmed down for the second time tonight. I decided just to stay awake a prepare for the day. I needed to go to a grocery store to get some supplies. I didn’t have much food here so we will have to pick some up. Today felt weird I had an uneasy feeling that something was going to happen today but I didn’t know what.
I was interrupted by banging on a steel door. I walked towards the noise and found myself in front of Chancey’s door. I unlocked the door to a tear-streaked angry face of a toddler. “I thought we were in a safe house? Why was my door locked?”
I shrugged and turned around to head back towards the kitchen. I heard her following me as I opened cabinets and the fridge and finding absolutely nothing to eat. I turn to her. “Want to go to a diner for some breakfast?”
She looked around and nodded. Then waited for me to head toward the door. I was a little taken aback by her but just shrugged it off. I must be paranoid. I locked up and walked her towards the car. I opened her door and buckled her in. I slid behind the wheel and began driving to a local diner that I have been meaning to try. We sat in silence for a while when she finally spoke. “Can I ask you a question?”
I was caught off guard by her question. I looked at her for a moment then back to the road. “Uhmm…sure.”
She turned so that she was fully looking at me. “What are you?”
I was so shocked by the question that I accidentally jerked the wheel to the side. I adjusted myself behind the wheel in discomfort before getting a handle back on the wheel. I cleared my throat. “Why do you ask that?” Does she know about my dream?
She studies me longer. “I can tell that you are not only human.” She c****d her head to the side just staring at me as if she were analyzing me.
Now I became even more paranoid. “What do you mean?”
She smiled and creepy smile at me. “You are just like me” She then turned to look out the window again.
I was way too terrified to even process what she just said like it was the daily news! I drove in silence the rest of the way to the diner.
