Chapter 26

Detective Ryans POV Xavier and I left before the medical examiner and the CSU team got to the crime scene. I need to talk to Chief Lewis and let him know what was going on. “Xavier, can you please stay in the car, I wanna be in and out quickly. We need to talk to the Tribe, I want to get as much information about Agent Johnston as possible, given the fact that we just handed our daughter over to him! Chief needs to know what is happening so that we can put an Amber alert out for our daughter.” I was barely holding it together as it was, I didn’t need any more distractions. Xavier reluctantly agreed to remain in the car, pouting. “I will let you do what you need to do but just know that I am not the enemy. Chancey is OUR daughter, I want to find her just as badly as you do.” I looked at him, tears in my eyes that I refused to let fall. “Xavier, I know that you are not the enemy but I am still mad that you felt that you had to hide things from me. I am sad that I failed my daughter in keeping her safe.” I took in a deep breath to calm my raging emotions. “I will be right back.” I then exited the car and ran up the stairs to the 2nd floor and straight into the Chief’s office. “Chief Lewis, listen I can’t stay too long, I’m just here to inform you what is going on. I also need any and all information on Special Agent Trip Johnston as quick as possible.” I paused to catch a breather, then continued when Chief Lewis remained silent. “So far, Garrison O’Grady killed Vivian Helmsley, the rest of the bodies were there long before O’Grady dumped his victims. We still don’t know who the second killer is. Mack and I have been chasing down some leads. Mack is currently at the crime scene of his next-door neighbor, Mrs. Paskar. He should be reporting to you in a couple of minutes.” After dumping the information on him I headed towards the door. “WHOA! Detective you can’t just come in here, dump this load of information on me and expect me to remember everything you’ve said! Is there any idea as to who killed Mack’s neighbor?” “No, he can fill you in on that when he gets here. Chief, I really got to go.” I bolted out of the room and ran down to the car. “Okay, now to the Tribe.” We drove to the same caverns that we had visited years ago. We drove silently for a while until we reached our destination. We exited the car and began our trek down to the caverns. “Sierra, do you think that our daughter could have done that to Mack’s neighbor?” Xavier asked but was afraid of the answer. I looked at him like he lost his damn mind! “Our daughter is not a killer! She probably reacted in self-defense. When I had that vision, Chancey was in a lot of pain and she was scared too.” He pulled me to a stop by grabbing onto my arm. “By the way, you never told me why or how you were in pain while having the vision.” I stopped walking so that I could talk to him. “She had somehow transferred all of her pain into me. I have been wracking my brain trying to figure how she could have done that. The only way we can find out is talking to the Masters.” We both walked into the main chamber. We were there for roughly about 10 minutes before the Masters made their appearance. What can we do for the two of you? Xavier spoke first. “We have a situation but first we need to ask some questions about our daughter, Chancey.” He nodded to me, I drew in a shaky breath. “A day or two ago I had a vision of her growing black wings. The pain I felt was excruciating so what my question is, how did she grow wings and what kind of hybrid is she?” Those are really good questions. First. Somehow by the two of you making a child with your special circumstances, created something extraordinarily unique. We thought that she would have the same similarities that the two of you both have. We had no idea that she would develop into something entirely different. She has some of the Chameleon that Xavier has but unlike the two of you, she has absolutely no traces of the Lycan gene. She has also developed into a bird of prey, a black Pheonix to be precise. She doesn’t feel pain because she can reflect it onto others. She also doesn’t need to establish a link in order to track someone. She is what we call a beacon, she can transmit pictures of things that she sees, she can also read minds. We were unprepared for the rate of her growth! Now tell me what are the other questions that you have for us.” I could tell what question Xavier was about to ask just by the tension on his face. “Is Chancey capable of murder?” Unfortunately, without the proper training she is completely capable of murder, especially this early in her transformation period. Her emotions are running high and cannot be controlled as of yet. I finally asked what has been bothering me for a while now. “Do you know of a man called Garrison O’Grady?” There was a pregnant pause before they answered. How do you know that name? Xavier and I were confused and concerned about the change in their voices. “He is the brother of Brent Cummings that I shot a killed a few years ago. He escaped prison and has been dropping bodies rapidly lately. He is currently pretending to be an FBI agent by the name of Trip Johnston. He currently has Chancey, which is why we are here so that we can get her back.” You need to get your child back and soon, she is not safe with him! He is a very dangerous being. Xavier and I snapped our attention towards the entities. “What do you mean…being?” Let’s just say that he isn’t a normal human. He is another Lycan hybrid but he was injected with Raptor DNA as an experiment then his memory what wiped so he does not remember. He was supposed to be a controllable weapon for the military but they soon realized that he could NOT be controlled. He was then sent to prison where he was supposed to remain until his last days. He is the only one of his kind now, the rest of the test subjects disappeared. “What happened to them?” I could not help but ask. The others were killed in missions that they were tasked with by the government. They transcended to a higher power once their missions were successful. He failed by being imprisoned and he blames us all. I turned my terrified gaze to Xavier and saw the same exact fear that I know he can see in my eyes. “We need to find our daughter, she is in danger!” It is not Chancey that you should be worried about. Just to give you an idea just how powerful your daughter is. If it was a one-on-one fight between O’Grady and your daughter, she would easily overpower him, however if he gets her to kill in cold blood then she will turn out just like him! You need to find her before she damns herself! Before I could say a word, they disappeared! I still had so many questions that I wanted answered. I didn’t need much time to contemplate what we just learned I needed to find my child. There was this instinctual drive in me that spurred me on. I was tugging Xavier behind me towards the car. “We need to talk to Mack and to the Chief. We need help finding O’Grady.” We had just exited the caverns when my phone rang. I saw that the Chief was calling me. “Hey Chief, I am just heading over to the station, we need to talk.” I knew that Xavier guessed that something was wrong by the tension rolling off of me and thankfully he waited until I hung up to speak. “What happened?” I didn’t even know that I was crying until Xavier wiped them away. I couldn’t comprehend what I had just heard. “Mack is in the ICU at Peters Hospital! Someone rammed into his car then beat him nearly to death. The doctors don’t think that he will make it through the night!”
