PROLOGUE
Loud footsteps could be heard outside the throne room. Everyone knew who it was, before the door opened, revealing the Prince Nathan Gordon, the ruthless Prince of the kingdom of Gordon. He was feared, perhaps even more than his father, King Henry. No one dared to look at him, without cause. He wasn't always like this. The old cooks in the kitchen were witnesses. He was carefree and calm whilst growing up. All these changed when his life was threatened, by a subject of the kingdom. The traitor dared to sneak into his room, at midnight, with the intention of driving the solid knife through him.
But Nathan being a strong lycan, was alert, immediately. Before he could twist the traitors neck, the traitor had already wielded the knife. Instead of his chest, like the man had aimed at, he damaged Nathan's face instead. It cut across his right face, vertically down to his cheekbones, avoiding his eyes. Nathan was quick to twist the traitors neck.
After the incident, multiple guards were replaced. It seemed suspicious enough, that a mere man would sneak into the Prince's chambers without being caught.
This was when it all started. Nathan began to doubt everyone. He trained harder than before, and always was on alert. He made sure the night guards were changed very so often, after two weeks perhaps.
But all these started getting better, with the help of the Queen Sandra, who always comforted him with her love. But on one unfaithful day, as the Prince was going on a mission, he scented dried roses and decaying soil. He would have passed by the place, save for the dried roses he kept scenting. He felt felt unimaginable pull, towards the place.
He got off his horse and approached the area. The closer he got, the stronger the scent became. His heart kept beating fast. Deep down, he knew what it was, without voicing it. The evidence, being the sharp pain he felt, sliced through his heart. He kept mute, for his people were behind him. He couldn't afford to show any sign of weakness. He knew they were suspicious of his act. He had already given them enough bones to chew on when he got off his horse and approached this little grave. Was this even a grave?
Nathan knelt by the grave, taking some of the soil from the grave in his hand, squeezing it before slowly sniffing it. The scent of dried roses went through his nose, down his spine. It was just as he suspected.
This grave belonged to his mate.
The mate he wasn't opportune to meet.
Nathan felt excruciating pain, but him being a very strong lycan prince, he managed it just well. He wanted to raise his head up to scream and shout, but he couldn't. Not when his subjects stared at him, looking for the slightest hint, to understand what was going on.
It took great amount of restraint for Nathan to stand up and walk away from his mate. All through his years, he longed for the day he would meet her. He was very eager to feel the bond. But it seems afterall, that he wouldn't be getting any of that.
Nathan never spoke a word, about what happened. Not even to his dearest mother. Days after this, Nathan began his investigation. It was simply not his nature, to allow something like this to pass by. Especially when it had to do with his mate. He desired to know if her time had come or she was..murdered. Nathan after days, of investigation got a lead on who she was. Amelia, was her name, from the family of Maddock. From what he gathered, the family was a well renowned family in the villages. They engaged in farming activities.
On further observation, Nathan found out that his mate, who was named Amelia, went to lycan Jonathan, for help. They needed more money to cultivate more crops, otherwise they would go hungry, but Lycan Jonathan, used this to his advantage. He demanded she submit herself to him in exchange for money. But his mate was pure hence she refused.
Nathan also got information that Lycan Jonathan had always secretly desired her, Amelia. That was why even though she refused to spread her legs willingly, he forced himself on her. Afterwards, he snapped her head like a twig.
Nathan felt anger boil the blood in his veins. He was immensely displeased. On his own, he plotted how he would take the dim head down, and he did.
On a particular day, under the bright sun, he led his army and watched as all men were slayed.
Nathan thought this would satisfy him, especially after snapping Lycan Jonathan's head like he had done to his dear Amelia, but he wasn't. And this was why, he commanded for all the beautiful women to be taken back to the Castle. Surely, they would do well in his bed. He would spread their legs wide and have his fill. And afterwards, he would toss them out, to the Palace guards, if they would have them.
Now that his chance at love was destroyed, he would become a play boy, tearing love apart.
None of his people dared to talk to him about his actions. This wasn't the young Prince they knew anymore. This was a new person blinded by rage and..sadness. He couldn't be approached.
The guards didn't hesitate to open the Palace doors for the Prince. Nathan walked with determination and annoyance, as he approached his father.
Everyone bowed to the Prince, who hardly laid any attention to them.
"Nathan." King Henry called, as he stretched out his arm, anticipating the kiss on his ring that was mandatory, to everyone.
Nathan knelt down, kissed the ring before straightening up. "Father."
"State your affairs for today. " King Henry commanded.
Even though King Henry is a soft hearted king, he had to toughen up for his kingdom's sake and his son's sake. It dawned on him that if he didn't hold the reigns tight enough, the horse old go out of control. In this situation, Nathan was the horse.
"I have killed Lycan Jonathan. "
King Henry almost coughed out of shock. Or was it pain? But King Henry could always put a stoic expression on his face. He stared into Nathan's eyes, with so much pain!
How could his son do something stupid? Kill a strong lycan because he lost his mate? Didn't he think of who will come for him, in revenge?
Upon the King's silence, Nathan continued, clearly ignoring the anger on the King's face.
" I killed the men and bought back their women. The older women shall be cooks and the younger ones shall be in my harem. "
That was it. The king had heard enough for he stood up in distress. His son had gone insane this time. What?!
"Leave us." He commanded the rest of the people in the throne room, who left at once, fearing what may happen. Immediately the last person left, the king raised his voice.
"You dare? You dare destroy a whole city, for a dead mate? How insolent are you? You..what? For your harem?"
Nathan had a bored expression on his face, clearly not appreciating all this. In fact, his father's words had no impact on him..all he wanted to do was, go back to his chambers so he would arrange for the ladies. If his plans went well, then he would have the first one this night.
"I am your king ! You look at me when I talk to you!"
Nathan raised his eyes, clashing it with his father's. Clearly, he could see how angry he was, but there was nothing he could do about it. Just then, the door to the throne room opened, revealing the queen. Queen Sandra, the most beautiful lycan woman walked with purpose, with her head held high. Surely, she heard of the abomination her son had committed. And knowing how her two men could get, she had to be there, before they crawled at each other's skin.
"Henry. Calm yourself. It has already been done." Queen Sandra directed to the King. Then she looked at her son, her only child with sadness. "I never expected this from you."
If anything, Nathan felt his heart clench. No matter how dark he had become, his mother always had a soft spot in his heart. She had always been there for him, never once left his side.
The king sat down without lifting his murderous eyes from his son.
"Allow him to do as he pleases, Henry."
It was the King's turn to look at the Queen. Did she grow two heads? What rubbish is she spewing out?
"Everything has a reason. But know this, Nathaniel, if you do wrongs more than you can bear, you shall be punished. What you have done, is despicable! You shall have your harem, you shall have as many women as you please, but remember, no inhumane act go unpunished. And only you, alone, shall serve the punishment. "
King Henry nodded, understanding where his wife was coming from. That shall be it.
"You may leave."
Nathan almost pleaded to his mother, whose sad eyes caressed his soul. He wanted to hold his mother and cry in her arms, at the pain he felt for loosing his mate, but he couldn't. The demons within him, didn't let him. So, instead, he walked away, without a care in the world.
