Some days the thought of him crosses my mind when I see a couple in the park holding hands or seeming in love without a care in the world. I think back to the day that I first met Joe. I was working at the same old small town diner that I had worked at since I was a teenager. The same hustle and bustle everyday as it had been for the last fifteen years. Day in and day out the same people came and went reoccurring as if they were stuck in some kind of time warp. It was a Tuesday and I can still remember the way the crisp fall air smelled and the cinnamon nutmeg coffee freshly brewed and the stingy chill around my ankles each time someone walked through the door. This day I heard the bell chime from the door and as I looked a tall handsome man strolled through. I instantly froze. Who was this man? Where did he come from? Is he really in my diner? He must be lost! As all these thought rushed through my head at once. Before I knew it I lost my balance and spilled a cup of coffee onto the table I was cleaning. Thinking I’ve made a fool of myself I scramble to get everything cleaned up hoping no one noticed. I was wrong everyone was staring at me and the handsome stranger was now heading towards my direction. As he approached me all I could see were his deep brown eyes I just drooled! I caught myself and snapped my head up quick !! “ Hi! Let me clean this up for you!! “Here let me help you” he gestured. My name is Joe. Ughh ughhh…….. I can’t bring a word to my lips to answer. Finally I sputter out Hi I’m Lisa….So Are you from around here I stutter ? No I’m just passing through on business. Oh! My heart drops a little. At that moment Brenda the super hot waitress swings over and bumps me with her hip and says my table scoot! Pfft who does she think she is!! She always gets in the way of me talking to any guy. I guess it’s because we have been friends since we were kids and she feels like she needs to Protect me or maybe she just likes to be the center of attention. Oh well whatever it’s not like he is staying anyways so why waste my time. I continued to work my shift as usual. Dishes, trash, tables before I knew it it was 9 pm and the diner was closing. Crap!! I had been so busy I forget to call for a ride home. I guess I’m walking. As I closed the diner up I stepped outside only to notice the temperature had dropped and it was freezing. I walked as fast as my feet could take me. I was about 2 blocks from home when suddenly I noticed a shadow slowly getting bigger and closer coming from the cemetery across the street! Whewww cemeteries at night really creep me out! I’m just imagining things it’s probably just a tree but then I hear SNAP! It sounded like someone walking. My heart begins to race and I feel a fear coming over my body as my feet slow down and come to a stop my hands begin to tremble. I watch the figure move closer and closer out of the darkness until it reveals a man walking closer to me. I look and I’m shocked by what I see. It’s Joe!!! Why is he in the cemetery this late. What is he doing. Nervously I say oohhh…. Joe right? Yes he says. Wow odd running into you this late. Why are you out in the cold walking around at this time of night in the dark? That’s a little dangerous don’t you think? You never know what kind of predators are lurking in the dark. His face was plain with his lips thin not showing any expression. I was a scared now. What seemed like a charming handsome guy now seemed dark and far away. I… I…. I’m just walking home from work. I should get going have a good night. As I turned my back to walk away I could feel an intense heat as if someone was staring into my soul at that moment. Finally I reached the door to my apartment and rushed in and locked the door behind me. My heart was still racing from the encounter I just had with this new and mysterious man here on business.
