Chapter 1: The Mysterious Ones
I have lived in New York my whole life. It was always the same, go to school and go home. Mom never let me do anything other than that. I wasn't allowed to go out on dates, I wasn't allowed to go to school functions, and I wasn't allowed to go to parties or hang out with friends. I know my mom is hard on me, but sometimes I wish that she would give me some freedom. There are times that I want to go out and have fun and hang out with friends. I have solid brown hair and brown eyes. I'm not very tall, I'm about average height and skinny. Most of the boys liked me at my school, but I couldn't date any of them. Right now I was headed home, so I could get changed into something nice, because today is my 16th birthday, and mom had something special planned. My name is Freya Hashimoto. I do know that my mother and father were married. The most that my mom was willing to tell me about my dad was that he was Japanese business man and that he dropped of he radar when she told him that she was pregnant, and that she when she had gotten divorce papers and that was the end of my father and my mother. I didn't bring it back up, she was never happy whenever I talked about dad. I looked up to see that I had wandered off and I was now 20 blocks in the opposite direction of where I needed to be. Mom was going to kill me. I turned around and started walking back the other direction, but it felt like someone was following me and it was creepy. I looked behind me, but I didn't see anybody. I continued to walk in the direction of my home. It wouldn't be long now till I got home, where I would be safe. I still felt that strange feeling of being followed and looked over my shoulder and saw a dark figure dart into the alley. I took a few steps back and I looked down the alley and saw a dark figure standing there, and I stopped. Like a fool, I stepped into the alley, to see if my eyes were playing tricks on me. I had almost convinced myself of that, until I heard a voice calling out to me and it sent shivers straight down my spine. "Freya, come to me." said a mysterious voice. "Who are you, and have you been following me?" I asked, but there was no response. "Freya, follow me. I must take you to you father." said the mysterious voice. "You know who my father is?" I asked, but he didn't get the chance to answer. Something grabbed him from behind and disappeared with him. The dark figure had appeared out of nowhere and vanished the same way. I refrained from screaming and ran from the alley and as far down the street as I could get. I don't know what that was about, but I was glad to be out of there. Maybe I am going crazy, because I have never found anybody that knew anything about my father. Of course I didn't know his name either. I finally stopped running by Central Park, but it was already 6 and i was still 10 blocks from house. Mom was seriously going to be mad at me. I took a look around me, and that is when I noticed it, their were strange creatures standing around the park and some were talking on phones. Some of them had blue and some were green, and while others were pink and purple and their tails were the same way. I shrieked and their heads shot up and they all looked at me, and a few began walking toward me. I turned on my heal and ran, but I bumped into someone. I looked up to see another one of those creatures. This one was had gold wings that shinned like the sun and beautiful golden brown hair and a golden tail. He had a kind smile on his face and he had a man next to him with silver wings and blond hair and had a silver tail, who also seemed to be smiling. I stood up and ran. "Freya, wait. I need to speak with you." Yelled the gold winged creature. There was no way was I waiting. I wanted to get home as quickly as possible and tell my mother what had saw. I ran as fast as I could, but I knew that they were following me. If I could just get into my house I will be safe. I rounded the corner, and my house came into sight. I pushed myself to run faster and I looked behind me to see the man from earlier was close behind me. I darted through my door and slammed it closed. I looked out my window and they had all disappeared. I don't know what I saw, but I sure didn't want it to be real. Maybe I was going crazy, or maybe I was seeing things. I mean I did have a long day at school today. I just need to go upstairs and get changed and get ready for my birthday celebration. That will take my mind off of things. I ran upstairs and changed my clothes. I took a shower first, I wanted to calm down before talking to my mother. I stepped out of the shower and dried my hair. I curled my hair and teased it up real big. I picked out a pretty gold dress, and started to apply my makeup. My eye shadow was gold and I had winged eyeliner on. I paused to admire myself, I looked beautiful. I don't normally wear makeup, but when I do it looks amazing. I slipped on a pair of black flats and some black jewelry and head down the stairs. "Mom, where are you? I am ready to go?" I asked as I walked down the stairs. "Mom, are you here?" I asked and walked to the kitchen. "Oh sweetie there you are! I was worried. When you didn't get home an hour ago, I feared you had gotten mugged or kidnapped." she said. "You worry to much mother." I said. My mother had really dark blonde hair, and pale blue eyes. She was 5.2 and she was busty, but modest, she was almost 35, so she preferred to wear clothes that covered up everything. We had a beautiful house in the nice part of New York that we owned, filled with nice things. It was a two story, 4 bedroom house, with two bathrooms, and large kitchen. We even had a fully furnished basement, where we did all of our laundry. "I know that I worry dear, but that's my job. I am your mother after all. I have to worry." My mother said. "I know that, but you don't have to be so over protective." I said. "Of course I do. I wasn't you could get hurt." My mother said. "Yes I know you have told me this a hundred times. It is always the same. It is the reason I don't have a social life." I said. "Honey, you know that I only do it to protect you." My mother said. "Look mom I am turning 16 today, a little freedom wouldn't hurt." I said. "I tell you what after we celebrate today, you can have as much freedom as you want starting tomorrow, but there will be some guide lines to follow." My mother said, and I could barely contain my excitement. "Are you serious?" I asked. "Yes." My mother replied. "Does this mean that I can have a boyfriend, go out on dates, and stay out later?" I asked. "We will discuss the the terms later, we have a celebration to do. We are going to the movies, and dinner, but yes you can have a boyfriend if I approve of him." My mother said. "Of course you would. What movie are we going to go see?" I asked. "First we are going to go eat at Gramercy Tavern, then we are going to go see Night Dragon." Mother said. "I love Gramercy Tavern and I have been wanting to see that movie. I am so excited. Lets go." I said, and grabbed my mothers arm, and practically dragged her out the door and down the steps. "Slow down. I am in heels." My mother said. "Sorry mom, I am just so excited." I said. "Well the movie don't start till 9, and our reservation is at 7. If we hurry we can make it there in time." She said. We managed to a taxi to stop and get it to pick us and take us to the Tavern. We ended up being like five minutes late, but the still seated us. I can say this much, the waiter did not look happy about our tardiness, big deal, at least we arrived on time and not 1 hour late. I wanted so badly to say something to him, but I knew my mother would get mad. "What can I get you two ladies to drink today?" He asked. "I will take water with a lemon." I said. "I will also take a water with a lemon and lime." My mother said. She loves her limes, I thought to myself as the waiter walked away. "So mom what are you going to order?" I asked. "I going to order the Lobster dinner." She replied. I looked at my menu and immediately decided on steak. "I am going to order a 14oz steak dinner." I said. The waiter come back with our drinks and I was excited to order our food. The waiter said he would be right back and he would take our orders. We agreed that we both wanted an appetizer, and we settled on a blooming onion, it was one of my favorite foods. I hope mom lets me get dessert to. I do love my desert. The waiter finally come back about 10 minutes later and he still didn't look any happier. We told the waiter what we wanted and ordered our appetizer and he left. "So mom how was your day?" I asked her. "It was good. I took the day off work, so I would have plenty of time to prepare for today. " My mother replied. "I appericate you taking me out today. This is the best birthday present ever." I said to my mother. "Honey you know I will take you anywhere you want to go." She said, and the waiter came with our food, and that's when I saw it and I wished that I hadn't. The wings of our waiter was black, and no one else saw this. It wasn't just an ordinary black, this was pitch black and sparkling, it made his wings look amazing. His hair was a pale white and his eyes were as dark as the night themselves and skin so pale that it made snow look dark. I looked at my mother and tried to remain calm. Could she see what I was seeing or was my eyes playing tricks on me. I looked up at the waiter and he just smiled. He knew that I could see him, he wanted me to see him. He sat our food down and left. I watched him walk away, and fear was rising in my chest. He had a long black tail and pointed ears. At least he looked some what human.
