Esi p.o.v
Esi was running because she was in pain and she wanted to go away from her father and the woman who is behind their family breakdown.
Unfortunately for her luck wasn't on her side. Because before she could run 50 meters, she was stopped by a huge brown dog barking at her and she immediately stopped to look at the dog who was also looking at her. the dog wasn't friendly to strangers so barking at her was normal.
She saw the dog approaching her with a growl she immediately turned in the direction in which she came running like there was no tomorrow while the dog was right behind her.
Esi saw her father and his wife standing as where she left them and she began to shout and waving one of her hands in the air " dad help the dog is after me!." As soon as she reached her new house she ended up pushing the front door with force.
It was when she was inside that she heard her father shout "Pozo stop now!" That did it stop. she was breathing heavily Esi never like dogs because they end up chasing after her. After the breathing subsided that is when she realised that she was in the living room and it was humble.
The walls are painted sky blue with two sofas chairs made of bamboo and another armchair with a table made of bamboo placed at the centre of the living room and the floor was cemented.
on the wall hang a calendar beside the window. there was a small tv place on a small table. she continues to look around when she heard " it's not much but we like it like that" she turns and look at Abena who had a big smile on her face.
Abena walks toward Esi and catches her off guard with a big hug. "I have heard so much about you and I have always wanted to meet you and your sister." She said meanwhile Esi was enjoying the hug that this woman was given her something that her mother never did to her. It was warm and it felt at home.
But Esi didn't want to let her know that she was feeling comfortable in her arm so she pulls away from her a look everywhere but her. Her eyes landed on her father who leans against the wall she has a lot to say and there is a lot of questions to be answered. But for now, she needed to shower, eat and rest there is plenty of time since she will be living here from now on. " Can I please know where my room is?" she asked, "sure follow me," Abena answered.
Esi's room is not big nor small but it was comfortable. The bed is just like the way she likes it small. It was also painted sky blue with a small window on the left corner stood a small wardrobe and beside it was a study table and chair.
After Mr Kofi and Abena were done putting Esi's things in her room, they left so that she could take a quick shower. Minutes later Esi came out of the bathroom got dressed and was ready for dinner. she came out of her new room and when into the kitchen where she found her father and Ebena sitting around a small dining table that only had 4 chairs.
Food was served and ate in silence it was very delicious and Esi loved it. After eating, the table was cleared and dishes were washed. Since Everything had been done, Esi saw that it is a good opportunity to talk, however before she could say something her father was the one to start the talking
" Esi I want you to know that I didn't abandon you and your sister I wanted to take both of you with me but your mother didn't allow it." He said and Esi asked, "Why did you live us dad, is it because of her?" She referred to Abena
"No my child it wasn't because of her." She answered
"Then why?" She asked again
"It's a long story," he said but Esi wasn't satisfied with his answer she needed answers and she will get it one way
or another
"Dad if you didn't live us because of her how come you got married without telling your wife and children?"
Esi said with anger. Her father sigh he didn't want to tell his daughter that he and her mother are divorced. He doesn't want to hurt her but knowing Esi stubborn nature she will not stop until she finds out.
Taking a deep breath he looked at his wife and she smiled at him to encourage him to go on and he looked at Esi her eyes were looking right back at him. If it was someone else they would have said Esi doesn't respect but since it's his child he can't do anything. "The small business that I use to own in the city wasn't bringing money as it uses to.
I was lacking behind in paying the bills in the house. Your mother refused to use her money to help out even when her pay was good to help in the house. Gradually, my business collapsed and I had no job nor any money.
Your Mother will cook for the three of you but will not leave me some since I stopped providing. She started to sleep in a different room. I was devastated. I had no savings nor investment. I when to see my friend and told him to help me out and he talked about this village where I could get money if I indulge myself in agriculture. which was a great idea and he also helped me get a loan.
I talked to your mother about it to move here and having a fresh start but she said she will not agree. she later asked for a divorce which I refused at first, but she threatened to tell you guys about it but I didn't want my innocent children to hear about it so I accepted and left you, guys, and came here." He said and Esi was silently crying while listening to her dad.
Her dad was in discomfort, he couldn't continue " He came to this village to start his new business, however, the day he came here he found out that I was for sale so her bought me an.." "Wait what!?" Esi shouted, "how"?
" my mother was owing someone money and she couldn't pay it back.
She offered me to the man as his wife but the man refused. All he wanted was to get his money. he decided to sell me to whoever wanted me at a lower price. That day, your father had just arrived from the city and pitied me so he bought me.
