Awful

The car pulled up in one of those quiet estates where billionaires lived, one that Jane had only seen on special events and TVs. Although she was awed, she refused to show her expression no matter what. She wasn't happy about his proposal. Her caring for two kids that weren't hers? She scoffed in irritation and quickly stepped out of the car before he could reach for her. Who knew Sebastian Ashcroft was a womanizer? Known for his wealth in LA, he was considered as one of the richest men with different companies to his name. Ash Tech was his new headquarters, unlike the previous, which was in New York City. Jane slammed the door so hard that Sebastian frowned in return. He brushed his nose slightly, realizing the woman he thought would be docile was rather bold. “Ma'am, please refrain from slamming the door in such a manner. It might damage the—” Louis started. Jane went green, her face contouring in disdain. “Tell that to your boss,” she deadpanned and sashayed towards the mansion as though it was hers. Her hair standing in all directions like a bird's nest, smeared make-up and rumpled clothes, she looked horrible. “Sir—” “Enough!” Sebastian cut his assistant off as he followed Jane, his mind a bit occupied at the thought that she wasn't so friendly after all. Louis was left gaping like a fish out of water as he watched the duo head towards the mansion. Swallowing back his words, he entered the car and drove it towards the parking lot. The gigantic mansion stood imposingly before Jane as she gawked at the expensive bulletproof door. The kind that she had seen at banks and hotels. From her line of sight, she caught a glimpse of the interior when a familiar presence stopped behind her. Sebastian lazily pressed the button on the door as it pulled open with a slow quiet hum. Then his eyes fell back on spindly brown hair. “Are you going in?” He growled. “I am!!” Jane nearly yelled in astonishment mixed with shock. Her heels clicked softly on the polished white marble floor, each step bringing her into an entirely different world. A middle-aged man in black suit pants and white dress shirt paired with a black vest suddenly appeared from one of the doors inside the mansion. His brows arching when he saw a messy woman looking around like a lost puppy. “Master Sebastian, welcome back,” he wished as he moved to collect Sebastian's iPad while eyeing his coat on Jane’s body. Sebastian nodded in acknowledgment, rubbing his eyes in exhaustion from the day's work. “Where are they?” He asked and took his seat on the couch to remove his shoes, yet to answer the curious butler who was still looking at Jane. Jane, on the other hand, was gawking at the award shelf in shock. About fifty awards and a few medals were neatly arranged inside the shelf. Unlike hers, this was a masterpiece. Nothing intrigued her the way ambition does and it only fueled her anger. Her small company was just an insignificant object to him compared to those trophies in his stead. “Charles, this is Jane Doe, our new caretaker as you can see,” Sebastian introduced Jane, who was still stuck reading some magazines that were entitled to Sebastian Ashcroft’s name. She turned upon hearing her name. “That's me,” she glared at Sebastian. If only she hadn't messed with him, her life would still have been bubbly. Well, she wouldn't have known the kind of assistant and friends she kept. Having no idea how hideous she looked, Jane removed the gray coat and handed it to the middle-aged man who she was certain was a butler. The elite families always had one. “Nice to meet you, Miss Doe,” the butler smiled a little as he collected the coat from her. Jane nodded solemnly as reality quickly approached her. She was in Sebastian Ashcroft's mansion where her thirty days to serve him was just beginning. “Papa!!” A shriek came from the staircase as a little girl in pink pajamas ran down the stairs, her little feet pitter-patting on the floor as she rushed towards Sebastian who was already smiling like a fool. Jane noticed the girl was not less than three years old with her hair pulled up in a messy bun. Sebastian grinned when his daughter whispered something to him in his embrace. The cold man suddenly shifted into a doting father. The part of him that the world never saw. Jane felt her skin crawl in irritation. Children were problematic and a pain in the ass. They were a reminder of the life she once used to have, which only fueled her dislike, if not hate for them. “Look over there, Kim,” Sebastian said, pointing at Jane, who was standing like a log of wood near the shelf. “That's your new nanny, okay? Her name is Jane,” he smirked when his eyes fell on Jane's wide ones. “Nanny?!! Of all names!!” Jane whispered in dread and disbelief as she watched the little girl run towards her. Her grip on her bag was tightening at the thought of it. “Good evening Miss Jane, my name's Kimberly,” she smiled, revealing her white tooth with some space in it, probably from the missing tooth. “Will you take care of us?” She asked, her eyes brimming with hope. Jane stared down at the kid, her subconsciousness almost taking a toll on her as the sound of someone hitting her when she was a kid flashed in her head. “No!” She shouted before she even realized it. “I'm not your nanny! Do I look like one?” She glared at the girl who was now staring at her with fear in her eyes. “Jane!!” Sebastian roared, standing up from the couch in one swift movement as he marched towards her. He picked up Kimberly, who was already sobbing as she gripped his neck tightly. “Don't you dare yell at my kids, b***h!” He spat. Jane felt her insides chill at his words. Her eyes itched, an urge to cry again, but she immediately backed it up with rounds of offensive words. “Yes! The same b***h you kissed in the parking lot! Doesn't that make you a dog, Sebastian?” She fired back with the same intensity. “Enough of your tantrums Jane!” He growled in anger, thick veins popping on the sides of his head. He was holding himself so badly and Jane couldn't help but push him to the edge. “It's not enough! I have every right—” “You don't! It's either you stick with the proposal or you get the f**k out of my house,” he seethed in anger. All the women he had been with never once complained. They were even happy and never once raised their voice at him. Jane immediately shut up, losing her will to fight back when the stake of her company was mentioned. Beads of tears dropped from her eyes as she slowly nodded like a child caught stealing. “I understand,” she murmured and went to sit at the foot of the staircase, wiping her face. Sebastian placed Kimberly down, and before he could figure out what she was about to do, she ran towards Jane, who was still sobbing like a woman who had lost everything. Of course, she had, he thought. It was a punishment for what she had done. He was willing to relent only if she did what he had told her. Butler Charles was left speechless as he watched both his master and the new woman exchange words like long-time rivals. His master had never mentioned any woman named Jane Doe to begin with, so he was still yet to get the gist. Jane felt small hands wiping her tears which almost made her reel back in fear. The little girl was wiping her tears? After her awful attitude a few minutes ago? “Papa is so harsh,” she murmured, her words slightly incoherent at the end. Jane just sat there, shocked by reality itself. She watched the little girl then took her seat beside her on the staircase. Sebastian exhaled in relief. “I don't like her,” a rather mischievous voice said from above the staircase. Jane shook her head, wiping the remnants of her tears. “I don't care
