“I beg of you, please transfer the ownership back to me. My assistant was just being naive. It's all I've got in this life. You could take me to court after, please I'm begging you!” Jane pleaded, her voice hoarse from crying for the past twenty minutes as she kept on pleading with him.
“No,” was the answer she got again. “I don't take my words back Jane and certainly not what is already mine,” he cooed over the phone.
Then silence reigned. Realizing the man had ended the call, Jane continued to dial the number in hysteria but the call didn't go through either. Her body was trembling violently as she fumbled with her phone, dialing another number which went straight to voicemail.
Jane had never thought a single post would cost her an entire company. Never in her life had she felt so small and useless as she felt right now. Nobody was going to help her and certainly the news might have reached everyone by now.
As if on cue, a name flashed on her screen and she quickly answered the call. “Yes?” She said hurriedly.
“Jane? Are you okay? You're all over the news,” her friend, Selene scoffed from her end. “What did you do this time?” She questioned.
“I'm fine. It's nothing I can't handle,” Jane replied, forcing a smile at no one and ended the call with a long press on the screen. Her fingers dug into her palm as she tasted bile in her mouth.
Selene and Mabel were best friends. For someone who sold her company, she must have rattled on to her friend. She hadn't realized she had been blinded by friendship all these times. Her assistant was her worst enemy even though she had not expected to strike.
The post had gone viral the day before and of course it was Mabel's idea that she put the word illegitimate to curry gossip across the internet. Only if she had seen the betrayal coming.
Sitting on the floor with her back against the white painted wall, Jane bit her finger in regret. There was little money in her personal account which would barely sustain her. It wasn't even enough to hire a lawyer to defend her in court.
Her phone kept buzzing on the floor but she refused to pick it up. At this point, no one was going to save her but herself. Then she stood up, arranged her bag and hurried out of her office.

The ride to Ash Tech was painfully slow. Throughout the ride, she couldn't stop coming up with scenarios in her head. She was going to do everything to get her company back. She worked for it. It was her sweat and blood.
After paying off the cab man, Jane carefully headed towards the sixty storey building in her line of sight. For a man with such company, hers was nothing but a piece of cake. It was meaningless to him, so she thought. Having no idea how wretched she looked, Jane stepped inside the building and headed for the reception.
An attractive blond in gray suit was sitting behind the counter when she arrived. “Hello, please can I have an appointment with Mr Sebastian? It's urgent,” Jane whispered desperately as she quickly wiped the tear that almost escaped her eyes.
The receptionist stood up with a frown as she raked her eyes over the lady before her. “Sure,” she replied and started tapping on the telephone beside her.
“Receptionist speaking, a certain Miss–?” She paused, looking at Jane for an answer.
“Doe,” Jane forced a smile as she patted her hair.
“...Miss Jane Doe requests an appointment with you, sir.” The blond said respectfully before returning her gaze to Jane. She dropped the telephone and shook her head. “I'm sorry ma'am, my boss says no appointment should come in after 10 am.”
Jane gawked at the receptionist and quickly looked at her wristwatch. 9:59 am. She swallowed bitterly, her grip on the counter tightening as she nodded gravely. “Alright. Thank you,” she replied and turned to leave.
“Do you mind using the powder room?” The receptionist said in concern. Judging from the woman's messed up look, he knew a lot was going on.
Jane shook her head, a tight smile stretching on her lips. “I'm fine,” she answered.
Watching the woman leave, a feeling tugged at the receptionist's heart. “Wait,” she said all of a sudden, a bit flustered.
Turning to look at the receptionist who was rather red, Jane waited for her to speak up. The last hope she had tethered to herself was shattered.
“Use that door over there. It leads to the boss’ private parking lot. He uses it around 3:30pm most weekdays. That's all I can do for you. I see you really needed to see him,” she explained.
Jane's eyes fell on the door and she quickly nodded. “Yes. You're a lifesaver. Thank you so much,” she replied and quickly darted towards the door. If it means waiting for that man for five painful hours, then she was going to do it.
Just as the receptionist had said, Jane's eyes fell on multiple cars of different brands, all black and sparkling, screaming luxury. Just the price of one was enough to purchase her company. Painfully so.
After walking around searching for where to sit and found none, she started pulling the door, checking if any was unlocked. “Filthy rich bastard!” She cussed and suddenly fell backwards when one of the doors pulled open, catching her unaware.
Five hours later, Jane was squeezed in the passenger seat of the black Audi R8 Spyder, sleeping uncomfortably as hunger gnawed at her stomach.
She had spent the previous three hours waiting but unable to bear the hunger, she decided to rest a little, timing herself with an alarm.
“The shipping to Australia was successful. All containers would be returning to LA shortly,” a voice said, getting louder as they approached the parking lot.
Another man nodded in satisfaction as he walked past the Audi. Halting on his feet, his eyes narrowed at the opened door of the car. “Louis, did you leave one of the cars open?” He questioned.
“No sir,” Louis, his personal assistant replied. “Is something wrong sir?” He asked.
Sebastian moved towards the car, slightly curious as to why the door was open.
A pair of unblemished cream hands came to view, then a full body which was squeezed uncomfortably inside the passenger’s seat.
A frown marred his face as his assistant looked over his shoulder to catch a glimpse of what his boss was looking at.
Jane yawned tiredly but mostly from hunger as she suddenly felt someone was watching her. Her warm brown eyes peeled open and she subconsciously reached for her phone. 3:35 pm.
“s**t!!” She sat up immediately, just then she saw the figure standing in front of the opened door.
Raising her eyes to meet stormy gray ones, Jane swallowed as she stared at Sebastian Ashcroft.
“Hii,” she waved, h
er heart pounding against her chest as the sleepiness jumped out of her eyes.
