8 "Tomorrow at eleven. I'll meet you downstairs." Before he could answer, I slipped back into the apartment. I leaned against the closed door and listened for any exchange of conversation outside. There were no voices, only one set of footsteps approaching and another retreating. A key jammed into the lock and I stepped away from the door and headed for the kitchen. "Who was that?" Dad asked as he entered, carrying a bag of groceries. "Who was what?" "That guy outside. He looked vaguely familiar." I shrugged as I opened the cupboard door and reached for the vase. "Delivery guy. He brought these flowers." My heart stopped as I waited for Dad to realize where he'd seen Ash before, but he just said, "You've got an admirer? I'm not surprised. When will I get to meet him?" "I don't know
