The afternoon shadows were long by the time Ash dropped me home. I didn't invite him up and he didn't hint that he wanted to. I waved him off then headed upstairs. My skin felt stiff and cool from the salty spray, but my body felt warm from being so close to Ash. My head was filled with thoughts of him and our pleasant day together so I failed to notice Dad's scowl until he waved the newspaper in my face. "Hey!" I protested. "What was that for?" Then I realized. He'd seen the picture. He stabbed the page with his finger. "What the hell are you doing, Sophie?" "Calm down. I can explain."
