Gary made only one error on stage that Phillip could see, and then solely because it was unmistakable. He moved UPSTAGE RIGHT when he should have been DOWNSTAGE LEFT. Unfortunately, that left him addressing his line to the wrong character. He did it twice with a sheepish grimace that made a ripple of laughter run through the assembly. Much to his surprise, Phillip joined in. If Gary faked his reaction to his own blunder—and he was such a fine actor, it was possible—then the man deserved an Oscar. A fine actor.
