During a break, Gary wandered to the upper level where Drake was sitting, effectively hiding. Neither of them wanted a repeat of what had happened at the read-through. The actors all knew Drake was there, but out of sight certainly seemed to mean out of mind. “How are you finding it? Interesting, I hope.” “I hadn’t realised how much a director choreographs,” Drake said. His voice sounded distant, as if half his mind were elsewhere. Gary suspected he knew where—Drake was preoccupied with whatever the earlier call had concerned.
