Chapter 1: The Proposal
Chapter One: The Proposal
Ethan Brooks gazed out the window of his family's Manhattan penthouse, his mind wandering to the endless possibilities the future held. As the eldest son of the wealthy and influential Brooks family, he was expected to take the reins of the family business soon. But Ethan had other plans – plans that didn't involve marrying a stranger to secure business ties.
"Ava Garcia is a brilliant entrepreneur, Ethan," his father, James Brooks, said, his voice stern but persuasive. "Her family's company, Garcia Industries, is a perfect match for ours. This union will strengthen our position in the market and open doors to new opportunities."
Ethan turned to face his father, his eyes narrowing. "You want me to marry a woman I've never met, just to further the family business?"
James Brooks shrugged. "It's a small price to pay for the future of our company, Ethan. You'll learn to love her."
Ethan snorted. "Love? You call this love? It's a business deal, Father, not a romance."
His father's expression turned cold. "This is not up for discussion, Ethan. The Garcias are expecting an answer soon. I suggest you make the right decision."
Ethan felt a knot form in his stomach as he realized the weight of his family's expectations. He knew he had to make a choice – follow his heart or fulfill his duty.
As he stood there, his mind raced with thoughts of rebellion and defiance. He had always been the obedient son, but the idea of marrying a stranger went against everything he believed in. He thought about his mother, who had passed away a few years ago, and how she would have wanted him to be happy, not trapped in a loveless marriage.
Just then, his younger sister, Emily, walked into the room, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Ethan, have you heard the news? Father's arranged a meeting with the Garcias for next week!"
Ethan's heart sank. This was moving too fast. He needed time to think, to come up with a plan.
"Emily, can I talk to you for a minute?" he asked, pulling her aside.
"Sure, what's up?" she replied, her brow furrowed with concern.
"I don't want to marry Ava Garcia," Ethan whispered. "I don't even know her."
Emily's expression turned sympathetic. "I know, Ethan. But Father's determined. He thinks this will secure our family's future."
Ethan sighed. "I know, but at what cost? My happiness? My freedom?"
Emily placed a gentle hand on his arm. "We'll figure something out, Ethan. Together."
Ethan nodded, feeling a glimmer of hope. Maybe, just maybe, he could find a way to escape this arranged marriage and forge his own path.
