During supper, I asked if they would be willing to help. Alex and Shawn were on board, but Addy was on the fence. She was unsure why she should help a random girl take down an Alpha when it was not her business. I didn't blame her, I would have a hard time helping a random person as well.
"Tonight we will go to the edge of the city and shift. I want to see your wolf before I make my decision." She spoke without looking at me and shoveling spaghetti into her mouth.
"That's fair. I don't know why you feel my wolf is so unique, though. I'm grey, that's pretty standard." I grabbed for the plate full of garlic bread and dropped two pieces near my plate. Training today had really taken it out of me and I was starving.
"It's not about your coat color. It's about the markings on your coat." She glanced up at me and returned to eating.
I stopped mid bite and looked at her, slowly lowering my fork. I glanced at Adam who was looking at me with an eyebrow raised. He was the only one at the table who has seen my wolf and knew what markings I had.
I shook off the weird feeling I had and looked back at Addy. "What kind of markings are you looking for, and what would they mean?"
"A moon shaped marking. There's a rumor that a wolf with the moon marking is almost as powerful as the Moon Goddess herself. The wolf is said to have two different colored eyes, and will fulfill a prophecy to claim their right to the Royal Crown."
Aly howled in my head and it almost sounded sad. 'There's more to us than you know, Olive.'
Adam suddenly looked uneasy. He cleared his throat and said, "Ok, so if she does have this marking, what does that mean? What prophecy? There hasn't been any member of the Royal Family in well over 2 generations. The Royal Family is thought to be extinct. King Aros is said to have stormed the kingdom and claimed it as his own after the kingdom fell."
"That's the rumor, but the prophecy states there is an heir alive and well. They will overthrow him and claim the throne and unite the werewolf race. If you're it, it's all of our jobs to protect you until you've claimed it. If you fail, the whole werewolf race will fall." Addy pushed her spaghetti around her plate and her voice grew softer with the last sentence.
I chuckled nervously. "Ok, cool. So like, no pressure or anything."
The rest of supper was silent. No one had anything to say, and I was twitching nervously in my seat from the information. Did this have anything to do with my parents' m*rder? Was Marcus part of something bigger? Was I this heir and what did that mean with my parents? Were they heirs as well and is that what caused their demise?
Once dark hit we drove to the edge of town. Humans lived in the city as well, so we couldn't shift there without being seen. The outside of town was the trees that surrounded the pack lands. A powerful witch had cast an unbreakable spell on all pack lands that if a human crossed into them by accident, they would be unable to see the pack house or anything around it. It would simply look like farmland.
They decided that either way they all needed a run, so we all went behind bushes and trees to shift. My hands shook as I removed my clothes and I took deep breaths to steady my breathing. I wished desperately in my head to just be a normal wolf, but at this point there was no way to change my future. If this prophecy was a real thing, my world just got a whole lot more difficult. I packed my clothing neatly under the bush and willed Aly to come forward. I felt her start to take over and heard cracking of bones as I began to shift. I heard Adam's wolf Blade from the other side of the bushes growling at me to hurry up. I was not connected to any of these wolves, so we are not able to mind link.
Aly pushed me back in our mind and stepped from behind the bushes that didn't do a great job of hiding her in the first place. She puffed her chest proudly and let her aura spill out around her. All three wolves in front of her immediately lowered their heads in respect.
'You may not willingly accept who we are, but I'm proud of who I am. I will cower in front of no one.' She said to me internally.
Addy's wolf was smaller than the three males and I, but her wolf was definitely threatening in her own right. Her eyes were a bright amber color, and her coat was a light red almost blonde color. Her eyes scanned my coat and stopped on my head where my black moon shaped marking stood out like a sore thumb. It can be considered a threat to hold eye contact for long periods of time, but she lowered her gaze to mine to see what color my eyes were. her eyes widened in surprise.
Aly put her head back and howled in anticipation of a good run, and the other three joined her. The howls filled the air and when they ended, we all took off. Sprinting and nipping at each other playfully. It felt good to run and feel the wind around us.
About an hour passed of running, playing, and rolling and we headed back to the spot where we shifted. After dressing we all came out and stood staring at each other. I rubbed the back of my neck nervously and waited for someone to say something when Addy stepped forward and grabbed my hand.
"I will help you, and I will protect you with my life." She lowered herself onto her knee and bowed her head respectfully. The other three did the same, and I blushed furiously.
"Get up. All of you. I don't deserve that and if anyone saw you they would think you had lost your d*mn minds." I pulled Addy up who still had ahold of my hand. "I asked you to help me train, and I still intend to take Marcus down and take my pack back. Once that has happened we can talk about the rest of whatever it is I'm supposed to do from there. He deserves what's coming to him, and if this had anything to do with my parent's d*aths, he needs to pay."
"Yes, princess. I agree. We will start tomorrow, and all of us will take turns training you. I do think we need to do some training in wolf form so when you challenge him, you're ready." Adam put his arm around my shoulder and we walked quietly back to the car and headed back to the apartment.
