Friend?

"Hey, are you ok? Do you need help?" I groaned and looked up to see a man not older than 25 standing over me. His light curly brown locks falling over his face and his brown eyes looked down at me with concern. I scrambled to my feet and pressed my back against the wall of the cave. I looked around frantically for my bag which had my pocket knife. I could tell he was a wolf by his scent, but I didn't dare shift in this small of a space and possibly get stuck. He cautiously stepped towards me with his hand outstretched. "It's ok, I'm not going to hurt you. Are you ok? You shouldn't be out here, there's rogues everywhere." "I'm fine, and you should be warning the rogues about ME, not the other way around." I scoffed at him. He dropped his hand and stood up tall with a smile on his face. "Well in that case, I'll be off then. Wouldn't want them to get hurt when I knew the danger that was in town." He winked at me and continued. "What are you doing out here all alone, anyways? I can tell you're an alpha. Where are your warriors?" "They're home. I don't belong to a pack anymore." My eyes lowered and I felt the tears start to return. I sucked in a deep breath and vowed not to cry in front of anyone ever again. "Ok, princess. What's your name? I'm Adam Longston and I don't belong to a pack either, I left them about 3 months ago after my alpha passed away and his id*ot son took over." He walked around the small cave running his hands along the walls and pulling on shrubs that overhung into the cave. I watched him warily for a second. He obviously did not feel I was a threat to him, he was perfectly comfortable with turning his back to me. I didn't know if that made him c*cky or st*pid. Aly chuckled in my mind before she replied 'What about both?' I chuckled to myself and looked up to see him eyeing me curiously. "What's so funny, princess?" He raised an eyebrow. "Oh nothing, my wolf is cracking jokes. My name is Olivia Manuel." I extended my hand and he took it, shaking firmly. "It's a pleasure, Alpha." He bowed slightly, which made me blush. I had never had someone actually refer to me as Alpha before, and honestly, I liked it. "So tell me, you're not a ranked wolf, were you a warrior?" I pursed my lips and stared at him waiting for his reply. "Yes, I was the head warrior for my pack. My old alpha was kind and ruled with a steady hand, but his son is hotheaded and brash with decisions. He would just as soon kill someone as look at them. I couldn't take it anymore, so I left. Renounced my pack and left in the middle of the night." He leaned against the wall and looked at the floor, lost in his thoughts. "I'm sorry to hear that." I said softly. "Don't be. Anyway, why don't we get you out of here. You can come stay with me. I live on the neutral lands and have a little house not far from here. I was out fishing when I found you. Come on." He started towards the exit and I looked around me before grabbing my bag and stuffing my belongings into it.  'Aly, do you think he's trustworthy? Why are we so willing to follow him?' I scrunched my face as I jogged after him. 'He seems ok, but keep your guard up. You're fierce girl, and I'm here if you need backup. I think the id*ot or c*cky thing makes him seem harmless, but don't forget he was a warrior.' We walked for over three miles with neither of us saying much. We finally reached a small clearing that held a small cabin with light smoke coming from the chimney. The porch wrapped around the right side and on the left of the door was a porch swing. The cabin looked fairly weathered and the chipped paint on the rust colored shutters accentuated that. I walked in after him, gently setting my bag down and taking a look around. The floors and walls were wood, pretty typical of a wood cabin. The furniture looked weathered, but suitable enough for a bachelor. I didn't see a mark on Adam's neck, so I assume he lives here alone. Adam walked over to a corner and turned on a lamp, plopping down on the couch and scrolling through his phone. I had my phone, but they didn't pack a charger when they threw my belongings into a bag, and honestly I didn't need them to track me with it anyways. I had thought about getting a burner phone, but didn't want to waste the money on it. I sat in the chair next to the couch and continued looking around. "I'll make us some food, you just sit tight." Adam stood and went to the kitchen. I could tell by his frantic looks and nervously running through his hair he hadn't cooked for many others before. I sighed and stood to go help him. Maybe I can learn more about him while we make supper. "Let me help. You obviously don't know what you're doing." I giggled and his mouth dropped open.  "Fine. And I do know what I'm doing, thank you very much." "Sure ya do." I washed my hands in the sink and turned to make dinner, opening cabinets and looking for pans. Over dinner we chatted about our lives, and got to know each other better. It was great to have someone to talk to that I didn't feel like he judged me or felt I was responsible for everything that happened. I told him my plan was to eventually take my pack back, and he agreed that was a smart idea. He did have a point, I would need to train. The only way to take a pack from an established alpha was to officially challenge them to a fight, and the fight was only over when one submitted to the other, or one of them was k*lled. There is no other way to end a challenge for alpha. It wouldn't be easy, Marcus had more fighting experience than I did, and had spent more time training. But that was my pack, and I didn't plan giving it up that easily this time. I had my alpha blood on my side, and my thirst for revenge was strong. I vowed to take down whoever k*lled my parents and whoever stood in my way from making that happen.
