Chapter 1 Freya's New Life
"In recent days, several young women in the Nerima district of Tokyo have been rushed to the emergency room due to acute anemia. The cause is currently unknown, but medical experts recommend consuming more tomatoes to supplement the body's needs for..."
The anchor on the screen spoke earnestly, but it didn't seem like particularly absorbing news, at least not for Freya Manners.
"Tokyo? How did I end up here? I should be in Manhattan."
At this moment, the young girl had no interest in watching TV. She was sitting on the sofa, silently sifting through her memories as if meditating.
In fact, the current Freya was no longer the same girl, despite sharing the same name.
This may sound incredible, but it wasn't until she woke up this morning that Freya was astonished to discover that she had become a real-life character in a romance novel she had once read.
"Damn it, I remember now! On my way to a party last night, I saw a little girl about to be hit by an abandoned truck, so I rushed over to save her, and as a result, I..."
"Well, on the bright side, at least I saved a child's life, right?" Freya consoled herself.
Strictly speaking, she hadn't really died, so the price she paid seemed somewhat acceptable.
However, Freya's emotions were still a bit mixed.
Though she had arrived in a brand new world, if she remembered correctly, her role in the romantic fantasy novel "My Number One ALPHA" was that of a malicious supporting female character with a tragic fate.
To give a brief overview, Freya and the protagonist of the novel, Mia Clark, are students at Mistvale School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The story unfolds as they, along with a group of their peers, participate in an exchange program in Japan.
Undeniably, Freya's appearance and figure exude a fiery sensuality. But as Mia's loyal sidekick, her typical demeanor tends to lack confidence. At times, she comes across as anxious and overly deferential, which starkly contrasts with her inherently captivating looks.
As a thoughtful reader, Freya had previously recognized that her character should be classified as a victim of gaslighting.
Mia, the absolute protagonist, isn't as kind and approachable as she seems on the surface.
In fact, many of her actions towards the original Freya could be considered as schoolyard bullying, which is why Freya eventually decides to poison her. (Although, in the end, Mia manages to turn the tables and defeat her with the help of the male lead, Oliver Vikernes.)
Fortunately, the point in time that Freya has traveled to precedes the official start of the novel's plot. There's still a chance for redemption.
Leaving the sofa, Freya heads to the bathroom and looks at herself in the mirror, making a determined decision: "Since I'm here, the tragic fate assigned to me must be left behind. I'm not a supporting character; I'm the protagonist of my own life."
"As for Mia's actions, don't worry. I'll make that b***h pay the price."
With that, Freya takes a lipstick out of her bag and draws a smiley face on the mirror in front of her.
It's hard to deny that this act of transforming into a vengeful goddess always gives off a vibrant and lively vibe.
Nonetheless, Freya remains clear-headed and rational, knowing that the most crucial matter at hand is the opening ceremony in the afternoon. In particular, the roommate selection process will determine the kind of person she'll be dealing with throughout the upcoming semester.
Moreover, this roommate usually becomes a teammate as well, both in campus life and magical adventures beyond the school's confines, evolving into a trustworthy companion. Consequently, choosing a suitable roommate is an urgent and significant task.
In her past life—let's just call it that—Freya, after several requests from Mia, chose to live under the same roof as her.
Looking back, it seems that Mia was merely using Freya. Rather than a friend, Mia treated Freya more like a personal maid attending to her daily needs, while Mia herself lived like a pampered princess.
However, all that is in the past. The idea of Freya continuing as Mia's caretaker is laughable. Not slapping Mia publicly during the opening ceremony is already an immense act of mercy from Freya. Of course, she only restrains herself to avoid giving others the impression that her temperament has suddenly changed a lot, but in the future, that might be a different story.
As for her roommate choice, Freya already has an excellent candidate in mind.
Enough of that for now. To dazzle everyone this afternoon, Freya needs to open her suitcase and find a suitable outfit. Since the school in Japan hasn't required exchange students to wear uniforms temporarily, she has plenty of options to choose from.
"Hmm, this one is nice, and it even has a faint scent of lavender," Freya says as she examines a purple outfit.
Freya rarely wore such clothes before. Under Mia's "friendly advice," she always dressed in plain, even shabby, sweatshirts. Mia would brainwash her into thinking that wearing such clothes exuded a sense of sophistication.
In reality, those oversized garments completely concealed Freya's perfect curves, and the colors looked faded as if they had been washed out.
Looking at Mia's glamorous attire, could there be anything more ironic?
"Hmph, it's time to show her what real good taste looks like," Freya says with a playful smile.
Additionally, appropriate jewelry is essential.
Freya opens her jewelry box and ultimately selects a pearl necklace, a birthday gift from her mother last year. Each natural seawater pearl has a beautiful luster and texture. Paired with a set of ginkgo leaf-shaped earrings and a teardrop-shaped brooch, the look is simply perfect. It's worth mentioning that the ginkgo leaf is also the emblem of the school, which adds a brilliant finishing touch.
With all that done, she finally arrives at the last task: preparing a gift for her future roommate.
It's quite a coincidence that Freya brought Blazeberry from London, a magical fruit that enhances fire-elemental power. Due to climate reasons, this special spiritual fruit isn't grown in Japan, making it an impressive gift.
"Ring, ring." Just as she's thinking about this, her phone on the table suddenly starts ringing.
It's Mia calling.
Freya presses the answer button, and a familiar yet insincere voice comes through the phone: "Are you still at the hotel? I'm so sorry, dear. I know we agreed to have lunch together, but I just met this cool Brazilian girl, and I'm inviting her to try some Tokyo cuisine with me. I'm sure you wouldn't mind, right?"
"Of course, I won't mind," Freya replied.
"But my DEAREST Mia, I must say I can't wait to see you." A mischievous smile appeared on her face.
