The stranger woke up, stretching. I'm sure my noise woke him up too. I said, "Oh my God, I'm so sorry... I... Fuck." I was so drunk the previous day, and I had no idea what I was doing.
The stranger said, "No, it's fine." I stood up hurriedly, walking the duvet over my body to cover up because our clothes were all on the floor.
"I'm sorry... I'm not really like this," I said as I began picking up my clothes. I'm sure he must have thought I was a p********e or a one-night stand.
He said, "No no no... Don't panic; I did want it too." I looked up at him, trying not to smile but couldn't hide it as I came out.
Then I noticed the room I was in didn't look like the lodge I booked. I said, "Where are we?"
He explained, "Uhmm... You were so drunk and couldn't even remember your lodge, so I booked this for you."
I placed my hands on my face and said, "Oh my God, I'll pay you back, I promise."
He chuckled and stood up from the bed, walking up to me. He placed his hands on my lips and said, "Shhh.... I want more of this."
Confused, I wondered if he thought I was a p********e. My face changed instantly as I asked, "More of what?"
He clarified, "No no no... Not that. I mean I really want to see you again."
I couldn't help but feel my stomach rumble. It definitely wasn't hunger, but I knew it was something good.
"Really?" I questioned.
He held me by my waist and said, "How about dinner tonight?"
I declined, "No... Today can't be possible. I really need to be with my mom today; it's a very special day for her."
"Ohh... I also have somewhere to be now. So how about breakfast tomorrow?" He suggested.
I looked at him, took a deep breath, and bit my lower lip. He was just perfect. I didn't even remember Jasper for a minute in his arms. It was almost like it should never end.
I smiled and said, "Yes.... Breakfast."
He pulled me closer, and we both locked eyes before he kissed me. It felt sudden, but trust me, I haven't felt that way in years, and I loved the feeling.
Lost in our kiss, I suddenly remembered my mom's wedding. I quickly pulled away and said, "I'm sorry, I really need to leave now."
He suggested, "Let me drop you off then." I declined, "No no no... I've already stressed you enough."
I hurriedly dressed, and as I turned to walk away, he yelled, "I didn't get your name." I smiled and said, "Hazel."
He introduced himself, "Lucas, just call me Lucas." I smiled and said, "Nice to meet you, Lucas." He handed me his phone for my number. I dialed it and returned it back to him.
"Breakfast then." He said. I smiled, then left in a jiffy for my mom's wedding.
Feeling like a college girl all over again, for the first time in two years, I felt alive again. I had no idea what we had or if we were going anywhere in particular, but I definitely wanted to explore it and see where it led us.
I was back in my lodge in no time, and I hurriedly prepared as I was about to surprise my mom. I'm sure she must have been expecting a call from me that morning to give her my blessings, but nah... I was going to give it to her in person.
Two hours later, I was ready. I followed the address on the invitation, and I was there. It was a little celebration, so she decided to do it at his place. I looked around and took a deep breath; I couldn't believe it would be my new home.
I walked straight to the door, pressing the doorbell. I wasn't expecting my mom to open up because I suspected she must have been getting ready by now.
I rang the doorbell again and waited patiently. I heard a deep voice from inside, "I'm coming!!!" Just then, the door was wide open.
To my surprise, I saw Lucas there. I looked surprised but smiled and said, "Lucas? What are you doing here?"
He looked surprised as well, he stammered, "I...I...."
I didn't let him finish before chipping in, "Ohhh... Don't tell me you're here for the wedding too."
He confirmed, "Yeah..." still looking a little bit lost.
I said, "Oh... I should have let you drop me off if I had known we were attending the same event." I was about to give him a hug when, just then, my mom came outside.
Immediately I sighted her, I yelled, "Mom!!!" and I ran to hug her. She stood there in shock. She said, "Oh my God, Hazel!!"
Lucas was as shocked as ever. He whispered, "Mom?" wondering why I had called Aurora my mom.
My mom said, "I wasn't expecting you here." I could tell how happy she was.
I said, "I just wanted to surprise you, Mom, and yes, I've agreed to move in." She was so happy, and she hugged me.
Lucas just stood there looking at us; he couldn't utter a single word. I said to my mom, "I see your guests have started arriving," actually referring to Lucas, thinking he was one of her guests.
She then said, directing her attention to Lucas, "Oh... I see you've met him already."
I smiled and said, "Yes, Mom, we....." Before I could talk, my mom said, "He's your step brother, honey."
I choked instantly at my mom's words. She said, "Are you okay?" Lucas rushed to get me some water as I stood there choking.
I didn't understand what my mom was saying. Was she actually referring to Lucas? The guy I had a one-night stand with? The same one who I thought was the one? The same guy who f****d me like hell?
Oh my God! Lucas rushed outside with a glass of water for me. He said, "Here you go."
I trembled at his sight, and I couldn't even look him in the eyes, nor could I collect the glass of water. Oh my God!! The stepbrother I had been waiting so much to finally meet was actually the same guy I had slept with last night.
My mom quickly collected the water from him since I couldn't bring myself to take it. She handed it over to me, and I drank it in one gulp. I said, "I... I..."
My mom said, "Are you alright? Come, let's go inside." Oh my God! I couldn't utter a single word. How the hell did I end up in bed with my stepbrother?! I followed my mom inside with my heart pounding in my chest.
She said, "You know Lucas couldn't wait to see you." I gently nodded my head and said, "Oh...." There was all I could say. I couldn't believe what was happening.
My mom noticed the change in my mood, and she said, "You don't look happy, dear. Is the dress that bad?"
I quickly said, "No, no, no... No, Mom." The last thing I needed was for my misfortunes to ruin her big day.
My mom looked at me and said, "Your mood suddenly changed as I mentioned your stepbrother."
I quickly moved away from her, avoiding her gaze. I said, "No... no." I cleared my throat.
My mom walked up to me and said, "I know how hard it was for you growing up alone and how much you needed siblings."
Oh God, the last thing I needed was what my mom was telling me right now. She continued, "I know you're not used to having a sibling, but trust me, you'll love Lucas."
Oh f*****g hell!!! Of course, I did already love Lucas even more than she could imagine. The whole thing really made me nauseous, and to think we were now going to live under the same roof? This was torture.
I cleared my throat and said, "It's okay, Mom... You deserve all the happiness." Just then, the room door burst open. My mom walked towards the man who entered, she said, "Oh, honey, here's my daughter, Hazel."
I recognized him. He was her husband and my new dad, my stepdad. We have only spoken on the phone twice, but my mom had shown me his picture several times, and this was the first time we got to meet physically.
I smiled and said, "Nice to meet you, Mr. Wesley." He opened his arms to me and said, "Come here, darling, it's good to have you home. Your mom couldn't wait to have you here."
I smiled as I went to give him a hug. I never knew what it felt to have a father, so this felt all new. I then cleared my throat and said, "I'll leave you two alone," as I exited the room.
Immediately I left the room, I bumped into Lucas. That was the last thing I needed. I avoided him as I turned to walk away.
He yelled, "Are you going to act like nothing happened?"
Jeez... I rushed to him and said, "Lower your voice. Nothing happened between us."
Instantly, he pulled me by my hand and dragged me into the kitchen.
I whispered, "Let me go." But he didn't release his grip on me till we got to the kitchen. He said, "What do you mean nothing happened?"
I gulped hard and said, "Exactly what you heard, Lucas. Nothing happened between us. We never met, and you're my f*****g stepbrother."
"Stop acting like that was nothing to you." He said.
Of course, it was something, but I just needed to end it before it even grew deeper.
I said, "It... It..." I couldn't even say it.
He yelled, "Tell me you didn't feel anything."
"What are you trying to do, Lucas? Sabotage my mom's happiness? Or did you even know who I was when you approached me at the bar?" I questioned.
Lucas said, "Of course not, you think I would want to smack my stepsister?"
"But that's what happened." I told him instantly.
But he kept on questioning me, "And you think the best thing to do is to pretend like nothing happened? The whole sensation we felt? We should throw it away?"
My breath began coming quickly as he moved closer to me.
I managed to say, "Don't...don't come closer, Lucas."
Lucas questioned, "Why? Are you scared you can't control it either?"
I said again, "This is wrong, Lucas, stay away from me!"
But instead of listening to me, he pulled me by the waist and said, "Tell me what happened yesterday was nothing to you. Tell me you felt nothing"
Of course, I couldn't, I f*****g couldn't because my heart was beating as fast as his. This journey we were about to start was a forbidden one.
I looked him straight in the eyes, and we were lost for a second.
As our lips were about to lock, the next thing I heard was, "Hazel!”
