Antigravity
"Gravity is a force that attracts objects towards the center of the Earth", the teacher said, with a subtle frustration in his voice. Most probably, because children studying in 7th grade are more interested in fighting and talking than listening to the teacher. The bell rang, and the next class was art. Mr Solomon had given a resignation letter to the school a week ago. So, that day a new art teacher was supposed to come.
She was wearing a bright yellow coloured saree, with flowers printed all over it. She had rosy cheeks and was pretty fair. She wore glasses and a watch, her hair tied in a bun. "So students, I am your new art teacher. My name is Ritika Sen". Her voice was soft, she spoke each word syllable by syllable, as if every word was costing her a fortune. "Okay children, to know you all better let me ask you a question. What do you truly want to become when you grow up?", she asked with enthusiasm.
The room filled with answers like pilot, doctor, cricketer. Soon my turn came and I stood up with a little hesitation and said, "What I truly want to become, is a better father. And what I truly want, is a happy family, with a dog". I could hear other children murmuring, and the whole class bursted into laughter. "Quite kids!", shouted the teacher sharply. "You will surely become a great family man one day", she said softly. "You think I can make it?", I asked quickly, with a little excitement. "If you truly want something, the whole universe helps you to achieve it. It's like an imaginary force.", she replied with a sweet smile. "It's like...... gravity?", I asked. "Yes it is.", she answered my question without any hesitation.
Everything was going well, then life took a turn. Soon I joined the Indian army. I love my country as much as I love my family. Therefore this job seemed suitable for me, but the tragedy is, I barely get to see my family.
Now that there's a bullet stuck in my chest, I don't have much time, so I got to finish my story.
I know I am not going to live anymore, and now that I am dying, the first memory which I can see in front of my eyes, is that art class. I never got to become a family man. I just hope my wife and my kids stay happy, and know that I will be there beside them when days won't be so happy. It didn't work for me. In my case, it was antigravity.
