Chapter three
Were Globe Group
Parker POV
The rain poured heavily against the glass walls of the Were Globe headquarters, thunder rumbling through the dark sky like a warning from the Moon Goddess herself. The city below glittered with lights, unaware that monsters in expensive suits were deciding the fate of entire packs.
I slowly stirred the black tea in my cup, the silver spoon clinking softly against the porcelain. Calm. Elegant. Deadly.
A chimera warrior knelt in front of me, his head lowered as he stretched out a file with trembling hands. Fear rolled off him so strongly I could almost smell it.
“Alpha Parker… the reports from the Moon Celestial Pack and Lunar Veil Pack have arrived.”
I took the file lazily, expecting another report of bloodshed and revenge.
Instead, my eyes narrowed.
Peace alignment.
My fingers froze around the paper.
For a moment the room became silent.
Then—
CRACK!
The teacup shattered against the wall.
“So this peace alignment truly wants to happen?” I asked softly.
That soft tone was far more terrifying than shouting.
“What the hell is this?”
The chimera immediately dropped to his knees fully, shaking violently.
Behind me, Bridden stepped forward from the shadows. Her long dark coat dragged across the marble floor while her silver eyes glowed faintly. Unlike the others, she never feared me.
“Pledge brother,” she said calmly, “should I take care of the situation?”
I exhaled slowly, forcing myself to sit back down.
The problem wasn’t peace itself.
The problem was what peace would destroy.
For years, the Moon Celestial Pack and the Lunar Veil Pack had drowned themselves in hatred. Their war fed businesses, weapons trades, mercenary contracts… and most importantly, us.
Were Globe Group thrived because powerful packs feared one another.
Fear made wolves predictable.
Fear made them weak.
And weak wolves were easy to control.
“The Moon Celestial wolves…” I muttered bitterly. “And the Lunar Veil fools… after decades of tearing each other apart, they suddenly want peace?”
I laughed quietly, but there was no humor in it.
“In my entire lifetime, I have never seen two packs this stupid.”
Near the fireplace, Thobes leaned against the wall with folded arms. My pledged brother wore his usual smirk, though his scarred face looked darker in the flickering flames.
“If they stop the war,” he said, “we lose access to both territories. No more weapon supply deals. No more mining rights. No more exploiting the moonstone routes.”
His words were practical.
Mine were personal.
I hated peace because peace healed people.
And healed people stopped needing monsters like me.
A faint chuckle escaped my lips as I stood and walked toward the giant window overlooking the city.
Far below, humans walked happily beneath umbrellas.
Weak creatures.
Yet somehow capable of loving each other better than wolves ever could.
“Do you know what I find amusing?” I asked quietly.
Bridden and Thobes remained silent.
“Their fathers died hating each other. Their warriors died hating each other. Entire generations suffered because of this feud…”
I turned slowly, my eyes cold.
“And now one meeting is supposed to erase all that pain?”
Thunder exploded outside.
I smiled.
“No.”
The room instantly became heavier.
Even the chimera struggled to breathe.
“Bridden.”
“Yes, pledge brother.”
“Send men after them.”
Her expression remained calm, but her eyes sharpened slightly.
“Kill them?”
“No.” I walked back to my desk. “Not yet.”
I placed the report down carefully before continuing.
“I heard the Alpha’s younger brother returned from military service.”
“Kaelion,” Thobes replied immediately.
A dangerous grin spread across my face.
“Good. Leave scratches on him. Deep enough to provoke anger… but not enough to kill.”
Bridden understood instantly.
“You want it to look like Lunar Veil attacked first.”
“Exactly.”
The silence that followed felt sinister.
Then I added quietly—
“I want old wounds reopened.”
Thobes laughed darkly.
“You really think they’ll destroy each other again?”
I stared at the rain sliding down the windows.
“Not immediately.”
My reflection stared back at me like a devil dressed in gold.
“But pain is patient.”
.
.
Kaelion POV
The closer we got to the Lunar Veil territory, the quieter the convoy became.
Even the warriors stopped joking.
The tires rolled across the wet road while tall black trees surrounded us like silent monsters waiting to strike. Rain tapped softly against the windows, and every shadow outside felt alive.
I sat stiffly in the backseat, trying to steady my breathing.
You are a prince.
Act like one.
But no matter how many times I repeated those words in my head, my hands still trembled slightly on my lap.
Five years in military service should have hardened me.
Instead, it only taught me how terrifying death truly was.
Across from me, Skye noticed my shaking fingers but said nothing. That was the kind of person he was. Loyal enough to protect my pride even when I was falling apart.
“We’re almost at the Lunar Veil border,” the supreme commander’s voice came through the communication device.
My chest tightened.
One wrong move…
One misunderstanding…
And peace between both packs would die before it even began.
Suddenly—
SCREEECH!
The cars stopped violently.
My body jerked forward as the sound of explosions erupted outside.
BOOM!
Smoke swallowed the entire road instantly.
“AMBUSH!” someone screamed outside.
My heart nearly stopped.
The atmosphere changed in seconds.
Growls.
Screams.
Bones cracking.
Gunfire.
The windows trembled violently as shadows moved through the smoke like demons.
“Protect the royal one!” Skye shouted immediately. “Nothing must happen to him!”
My breathing became uneven.
I couldn’t see anything.
Only smoke.
Darkness.
And fear.
Then—
SPLASH!
Blood exploded across the windscreen.
Warm.
Fresh.
So much blood.
I froze completely.
A guard’s body slammed against the front of the car, his throat ripped open brutally. His dead eyes stared directly at me while blood slowly slid down the glass.
My stomach twisted violently.
“What the hell is happening…” I whispered shakily.
Outside, warriors screamed in agony.
One by one.
Then silence.
Too much silence.
The car door suddenly ripped open.
A figure lunged toward me from the smoke.
I barely saw the silver blade before it came crashing toward my chest.
Time slowed.
I couldn’t move.
Fear chained my body completely.
Then—
“KAELION!”
Skye threw himself at me.
SHINK!
The blade pierced through his shoulder instead.
Blood splattered across my face.
Skye groaned painfully as he shoved me to the floor of the vehicle.
“Stay down!”
Another attacker appeared beside the car, eyes glowing murderous gold.
The assassin shifted partially into wolf form, claws tearing through the metal door like paper.
I crawled backward in panic, my pulse roaring in my ears.
The assassin grabbed me by the collar violently.
For one horrifying second…
I truly thought I was going to die.
The blade moved toward my throat.
Closer.
Closer.
My entire body shook uncontrollably.
I thought of my brother.
Of home.
Of my father’s final words.
I wasn’t ready.
I wasn’t ready to die.
BANG!
The assassin’s head snapped backward as blood burst into the air.
The supreme commander had fired directly through the smoke.
The attacker collapsed lifelessly beside me.
But before I could breathe—
Another blade pierced through the broken window.
The sharp metal sliced across my ribs.
Pain exploded through my body instantly.
“AHHH!”
I screamed uncontrollably as warm blood soaked my clothes.
It felt like fire ripping through my flesh.
I pressed my hand against the wound desperately, but blood kept pouring through my fingers.
“Kaelion!” Skye grabbed me quickly despite his own injury. “Stay awake!”
My vision blurred.
Outside, the remaining attackers began retreating into the forest.
“They’re escaping!” a warrior shouted.
“Don’t chase them!” the supreme commander barked immediately. “Protect the prince!”
The smoke slowly cleared.
Bodies were everywhere.
Dead guards.
Broken weapons.
Blood mixing with rainwater on the road.
One warrior was still breathing weakly while holding his stomach open with shaking hands.
Another had lost an arm completely.
The metallic smell of blood filled the air so heavily it became difficult to breathe.
I stared blankly at the scene while trying to stop my bleeding.
This wasn’t war.
This was slaughter.
The supreme commander entered the car quickly, his face dark with fury.
“They already ran away,” he said coldly before looking at me. “Is Kaelion alright?”
Skye nodded immediately even while bleeding heavily himself.
“He’ll survive.”
Survive.
The word sounded distant in my ears.
I nearly died.
I actually nearly died.
The supreme commander clenched his fists tightly.
“We should report this to the Alpha immediately.”
“No.”
Everyone looked at me.
Even speaking hurt.
I forced myself to sit properly despite the pain tearing through my ribs.
“This…” I breathed shakily, “this was planned carefully.”
My mind replayed the attack again.
The smoke.
The timing.
The precision.
No ordinary rogues could pull this off.
“If my brother hears about this now…” I continued quietly, “he’ll believe Lunar Veil attacked us.”
“And if that happens…”
Nobody finished the sentence.
War.
Another war.
Thousands dead.
I swallowed painfully before looking outside at the corpses.
“We investigate this quietly first,” I said weakly. “Without anyone knowing.”
The supreme commander studied me silently for a moment before nodding.
“As you wish, prince.”
The convoy slowly began moving again.
But nobody spoke anymore.
Not after seeing death that closely.
I leaned my head against the car window, staring at my blood-covered hands.
