Chapter 1
Danielle's POV
The whole point of our girls’ vacation was to breathe and have some fun, letting out enjoyment wash away the hurdles the year had brought on our shoulders.
And this morning, being the last day of our little trip, we decided to finish it off with a day at the spa.
“God, yes…” Rachel moaned as the masseur dug into her shoulders. “I could definitely get used to this."
She sure was enjoying herself and even maybe a little too much.
"This is officially the best week ever." Maggie said the moment she sat up after her massuer was done with her massage.
We had just finished and then decided to move next to the heated pool right outside where we sat by the edge, wrapped in our fluffy robes when a voice from behind me interrupted my moment.
“Nice place to hide from the cold,” The voice said and I turned to look who it was.
Who is this handsome devil?
“Mind if I sit?” He asked.
“Sure.” I said and decided to continue sipping on my coconut drink before he then decided to engage me in a little conversation before asking for my number.
And I gladly gave it to him.
"Alright." He said, as he got up. "I'll call you."
"What?" I asked as Maggie kept giving that look.
"Danielle you do know we're leaving in just few hours right?" She said.
"I know that." I said.
"Then why did you give him your number?"
"I just felt like it." I said simply and continued sipping my coconut. "And who knows? Maybe on our vacation next year I could finally get to have some fun."
"You're hopeless." She said, kicking water at me.
"We better get going so we don't miss our flight." Rachel said and we all finally left the spa.
We all returned to the hotel we were staying and started packing up, making sure we made it in time to the airport and not miss our flight.
And getting outside now, the snow had thickened. It was falling more heavily than it was before and the wind was getting even stronger.
“Are we really flying in this?” Maggie asked, as she ordered through the cab window. "Are you sure it's safe?"
“If it wasn’t safe, all flights would have been canceled, would it?" Rachel said confidently as she went back scrolling on her phone.
"Yeah, your probably right?" Maggie said as she wind up.
Upon getting to the airport, we made our way to departure where we were about checking in when I discovered I couldn't find my flight ticket nor my purse.
“Oh no.” I said as I rummaged frantically through my bag.
“What is it?” Rachel asked immediately.
“I can't find my ticket. And my purse." I said. "I must have left it at the hotel."
"Babe, you'll have to hurry back and get it." Maggie then said and I quickly dropped my bags with them, asking how long we had left before take out.
"About...58 minutes." Rachel said. "You better hurry."
Luckily the drive back to the hotel didn't take too long as the road was clear now. It seems people had started clearing off due to the snow getting heavier.
I reported to the hotel desk and thankfully they found my purse and ticket and made sure to keep them safe for me.
"Oh thank you so much." I said as I collected them back and quickly gave the staff a $100 tip before running quickly back to the cab.
The snow was wayyy heavier now and the wind was becoming violent.
The driver tried but he struggled as he drove through the storm and finally, he decided to stop the ride and told me he couldn't continue.
“I’m sorry. I,'m really sorry." He said. "I just can’t. It’s too dangerous. I need to get home.”
“What? You can't just leave me out here. I have a flight to catch—”
“I’m sorry,” he repeated. “The Storm is going to get worse. Please, you have to find somewhere safe and stay there.”
"Sir please, I'll pay you double." I begged. "Just take me to the airport."
"I'm really sorry ma'am. I can't." He said, as he opened the door for me to get out and then zoomed off immediately.
I stood there with the snow battering my face as I tried waving down another cab.
But no one stopped.
"God please..." I prayed and kept trying until my phone rang with Rachel's call.
“Where are you?” Rachel shouted. “We're boarding the plane now, you have to hurry!”
“I can’t!” I yelled over the wind. “No one will pick me up! They’re not driving in this—”
“Ma’am, you have to turn off your phone,” I heard someone say behind her.
"Danielle, you better get over here now!" She said and then ended the call.
"Oh God, what do I do?"
The wind had picked up now and the snow had turned into a full storm and yesterday, no can refused to stop for me.
I finally made up my mind to return to the hotel and I started running towards the direction I came from, hoping to see another car but there was no one, so I decided to run to a nearby ATM to take shelter.
I was just there practically freezing when a car finally stopped and a man came running to me.
“What are you doing out here?” the man yelled over the storm. “Are you trying to freeze to death?”
But before I could answer and explain my predicament, he yelled “Come on, get in the car" and I ran to the car with him.
"Thank you so much." I said as I started shaking off the snow from my body.
"What were you doing out there?" He asked again, as he turned the car back on and activated the heater.
"I was trying to get to the airport." I explained. "But the man that was taking me decided he wasn't going anymore. And I could get another one."
Luckily this was a kind man. As I went on to explain to him how I'd forgotten my ticket at the hotel I was staying at and then asked if he could drop me off at the airport, he accepted and took me there.
He even decided to walk me in, in order to make sure I got on the plane but it was already too late.
"We're sorry ma'am but our flight for the day just took off." One of the attending staff said to me.
"Oh God, what do I do?"
This wasn't how I hoped today would go at all. My bag, my clothes, everything was with Rachel.
I asked the man to please take me to the hotel I was staying in but we couldn't go far in the snow storm. The road was blocked and we were instructed to go back and get to safety.
"How about I bring you to my place?" The man offered and I accepted, having no choice.
