Chapter Eighteen

The food and wine was exquisite. There was music and dancing afterward. There were also couples walking out on the grounds. The sky was cloudy promising rain. Several gentlemen asked Aurora to dance including a couple of Cousin Benny’s brothers. Will had been pacing the floor in the office until Margretta had informed him when the Kensington family had arrived. Then He put his mask on and he joined his friend, Charlie at their table. He enjoyed the meal and danced with a few ladies and then he spotted Aurora dancing with a gentleman a few couples over. He excused himself and then he cut in on Aurora and her dancing partner. Which wasn’t the first time, it had been happening since she had started dancing. She looked very angelic. They started dancing. From the moment their fingers touched there was something magnetic pulling them together. Everyone started staring, they were captivating to watch them glide across the dance floor. It was almost magical. Will smiled. Aurora smiled back. Aurora tried to make small talk. “It looked like it was going to rain outside when we came here tonight.” She said. “Yes, it’s been quite humid out lately.” Will said. Immediately she knew who he was. She looked afraid. She tried to remove her hand from his but he held it tightly. She blushed. She didn’t want to cause a scene. So they continued to dance. “I have been meaning to return your clutch to you. You dropped it that night you ran away. Have you been receiving the flowers I sent you?” He asked. She nodded. She tried to put a smile on her face but she felt the sting again of his rejection but only in her mind. When the song ended she pulled away. She needed to get some air. This time he followed closely. He wasn’t going to let her get away. She stepped outside and took of her mask. Everyone was in the banquet hall and ballroom. They were alone. She walked away quickly. He chased after her. “Waiting Aurora, please.” He pleaded. It started to rain and she ran to the far end of the grounds. He chased after her. He grabbed her hand and stopped her from running. She was rigid. They stood there looking at each other as the rain came showering down on them. He still was holding her hand. She looked at him. Her eyes said more, but she couldn’t speak. He kissed her. She melted in his arms. They pulled away from each other. He led her to the gazebo and helped her sit down. He gave her his jacket to keep her warm. Tears of relief swept over her. He wiped the tears and smeared makeup from her face with his handkerchief. They talked about the night at the river while they waited out the rain. Soon the rain had stopped, but they stayed and talked throughout the rest of the evening. He kissed her again. She blushed. “I’m so glad that you decided to chase after me.” She said. “Me too.” He said kissing her again. Soon Cousin Benny and Georgie came in search of Aurora. “I figured we would find you guys out here.” They all laughed. “You’re parents are wanting to go home, do you want me to tell them that you found another ride home?” Georgie asked. “Yes, I will make sure she makes it home safely.” Will said. Georgie smiled and waved good night. Aurora and Will waved back. It was the end to a perfect evening. He kissed her and Aurora sighed happily.
