Definitely ugly.
Just an hour ago, we eventually made it to what was supposed to be our lair for the week, and I was definitely overjoyed upon seeing it. The four-story structure, located in what appears to be the ghetto of Bluebell, stood tall and proud, its exterior walls covered in vulgar graffiti, clearly the result of vandalism by the neighborhood's youth. It was painted with a rather faded red color, and a couple of windows were left broken. An indication that it was just recently done lies on the floor, as shattered pieces of glass are scattered around on what seemed to be an unmown lawn. The strong stench came from trash bags that were piled on top of each other on the sidewalk. The building is practically on the verge of collapsing; it is definitely a sight to see.
“Are you sure about this?” I asked, unsure. “C'mon, I don’t think that this is going to work at all.”
I looked at Elijah, who is currently holding a syringe; inside was a liquid with which I have developed a very special bond.
Wolfsbane.
Upon having it on a werewolf’s system, it will immediately weaken their wolf up to the point where they won’t be able to shift into their fullest form anymore, therefore, no inhuman strength and speed, as well as heightened senses. In the short term, a werewolf will practically be more like a human, and being a human means not being a werewolf, hence no werewolf scent.
It is ridiculous, I know. But even though it is hard to admit, it works, but it will also come with tremendous pain to those who will have it.
“It is the only way,” Elijah mumbled, testing out the syringe and squirting out a little portion of the liquid.
“Well, I should not be worried though; the goddess knows if my wolf’s still alive because I still can’t feel her even if that already left my body.” I humored him darkly while pointing at the wolfsbane in his hand.
Elijah looked at me seriously and said, “Even mine doesn't; it is the price we have to pay for choosing this life.”
It is true that wolves naturally belong to packs; the same applies to werewolves; our wolves will feel useless and alone, not being a part of any pack. I voluntarily chose this life, which made my wolf resent me. It would be a different story if the reason I am a rogue is because I was exiled or abandoned by a pack.
However, that was not the case.
“Brace yourself,” Elijah lightly warned.
In a swift move, I felt the needle strike me, and then it was gone. I hissed when I felt the pain hit me in an instant. I am in agony. My whole body was sweating while I closed my eyes and gripped the edge of the table in front of me, holding on to it for dear life. I bit into my lip, and as I tried to hold my screams from coming out, I felt like I was on fire. For a second, I felt her—my wolf. She is in so much more pain than I am. A part of me felt guilty that I was causing her so much pain, but it must be done.
After what felt like an eternity, it stopped and went away, and I just feel so tired again.
“For a second, I thought that you were not going to survive that,” Elijah said nonchalantly, throwing away the used syringe and placing the bottle of wolfsbane back into his bag.
“It has been my buddy for a year now,” I said, “nothing new.”
I tried to stand up, but in a split second I felt my legs wobble, and they gave up. I felt the air rush past me as I closed my eyes, and I accepted my fate of falling down to the floor.
But it never happened; I felt arms wrap around me, saving me from falling. I opened my eyes and stared at Elijah’s face. Concern was written all over him.
“Oops, I shouldn’t have done that,” I chuckled lightly. “Thank you, though,” I said as he guided me back to the chair again.
“We could cancel our plan for tonight and-”
I shoot up my hand and say, “No, it’s okay. Just give me a few minutes, and I will be fine as usual.”
“But-”
“I insist. I want this to be over with as soon as possible.”
It was just silent for a few minutes, me and him just staring at each other, and then he finally nodded and walked out.
I sighed and gripped my head tightly. I feel kind of light-headed after almost falling earlier, and I actually do not feel like going at all, but my father was clearly intent on having to meet up with this Bentwood tonight. Make him aware of our presence and assure him that the transaction will go smoothly as promised.
My thoughts were put on hold when Elijah put down a glass of cold water in front of me, I looked at him in gratitude, and he just nodded back at me, turned his back, and went straight to open the door to his bedroom.
Right when he was about to close the door, he turned around, poked his head out, and gruffly said, “I suggest you better get ready; we will leave in twenty.”
Then he closed the door.
I rolled my eyes at his closed door and attempted to stand up again. This time, I was able to do it. Smiling in triumph, I carefully marched towards my room. The only thing that I liked about this apartment is that it has two rooms. I was so glad that I let out an intrusive sigh of relief, which earned me a weird look from Elijah. As bad as the exterior of this place looks, the inside is not so bad—though, it appears to be very basic. It comes with a small couch, a coffee table, and a refrigerator—which seems to an antique and hoary. It got a small bathroom, and a separate kitchen as well.
I was in the middle of browsing through my luggage for something decent to wear—that actually fits me. After the long year of being imprisoned, I lost a couple of weight, hence almost all clothes in my wardrobe was either to loose or was too baggy for me. In the end, I just settled for a grey sweater and black leather pants which were still kind of loose to me, but that will do it.
I scanned my bag for a small pouch which contains of some female nescessities, then I stood up straight, puch in hand and walked out my room to go to th bathroom.
I stared at my reflection in the mirror in front of me, I look ghostly pale, my lips were cracking, prominent looking bags under my eyes and my cheekbones is more defined to my liking—I look bad. I sighed, and opened the pouch, I took my brush out and proceeded to fix my hair, I brushed it carefully. My natural black locks was now painted with ginger dye. It was one of the things that I had to change to twick my appearance a bit.
By the time I was done, I managed to look more like a human now—with the help of some makeup, of course.
When I got out of the bathroom, I saw Elijah waiting for me. He then, stood up when he caught sight of me.
“Alright, let’s go."
