Kissed by the flames

Chapter three - Chief

The bright sun began to rise high in the sky to signal the start of a new day after a very long and tiring night for Freya and Akihus. They had discovered their new little bundle of joy was a baby girl and because of her fiery red hair they settled on the name Nina. The primary meaning of that name is "strong" of which she was to have survived by herself in the cold all that time, but it also means "of the flames". It truely was perfect for her as she was already showing her fierce little fighters spirit and her red whispy locks.

"Kih my love would you be able to bring back some fresh food supplies on your way home from the alphas pack meeting? The suprise lack of sleep is making me starved. Perhaps some eggs too?" Freya fluttered her eyelashes in his direction even though she struggled to keep her huge beautiful eyes open. Her once perfect skin now adorned with giant dark bags under her eyes.

"Of course my sweet, I'll be as quick as I can. I imagine the alpha just wants to speak with regards as to what happened last night and that we have welcomed a new little human baby into the pack, as it is a first after all..." Akihus kissed her on the head and then took a peak at Nina who was fast asleep in her make shift cradle beautifully swaddled in soft cotton cloth. He smiled to himself and just thinking about how lucky he feels to have recieved such a gift from the goddess above, he couldn't however help but think what had happened to her birth parents and why.

After the pack meeting was over, which included the Alpha and all the high ranking members the rest of the pack was disbursed to go about their day to day activities such as hunting and foraging. However, the cheif healer held back Akihus along with the Elijah as he had news he felt only needed to fall upon their ears. The cheif healer Jeb gathered them around his small fire while sweeping back his long scraggly white hair. "Men, I have seen it in the flames something violent is upon this earth and it is not of mystic nature. I see bloodshed and s*******r not for the faint of heart, the supernatural in this world must watch their backs and the backs of their neighbours it parades under the guise of god." The men made small talk regarding the recent acts of violence and tradgety that let Akihus and Freya to adopt Nina as their own. They spoke of their plan to further security around the pack and how raising a human child would be handled.

"My love I'm home...." Akihus returned with their food essentials he had gathered from within the pack village. "Frey.... I have brought back what you wanted.... Freya... Freya?" His heart sunk as the possibilities of what may have happened to his mate and child swam around his head. Had the monsters who killed Nina's biological parents come back to complete the job? He raced around searching for them all around their small wooden cottage, kitchen no, living room no, bedroom no. He finally ran outside into the crisp air to find them wrapped up together in a large blanket fast asleep, he nestled down beside them after fetching an extra blanket and watched them both as his eyes grew heavy.

"Is this to be my life now, worrying every time they're not in my line of sight? I hope the rest of our lives run smoothly and I pray to the goddess above that cheif is wrong an that there is no war on the way."
