He looks at her like she’s dumb.
“You can have anything you want, you know me better than that”
I chuckle shaking my head as mum hops on the spot excitedly, she was such a child but I loved that about her.
It’s not that she couldn’t afford to buy herself the ring, it's the fact that dad was buying it for her.
Everyone gets their rings and Gerald heads back to the school as I zap us back home where Carter and dad are working. Mum skips over to dad wiggling her fingers in his face.
“Ohhhh that’s pretty, do you like it!”
He asks, studying it with a smile on his face
“I love it”
She squeaks jumping on dad, he laughs catching her and kissing her sweetly, I walk round the desk, Carter turns slightly so I can sit on his knee. He kisses me softly, running his finger down my face.
“Did you get anything?”
I shake my head kissing him again
“Nope, I don’t need anything I love my ring, adlais is based of your design”
He looks surprised, his beautiful eyes twinkle under the sunlight
“really?”
“Yep, it’s perfect. She’s going to love it”
He grins
“Well that’s all that’s important then, are you excited to plan a wedding?”
I cringe at the thought, we have distanced ourselves from a lot of family members over the years because they treated us like s**t. So the thought of bringing them all together sucks.
“I was thinking we should just do a family wedding, or a wedding with just a few people”
Mum tells me, I nod agreeing
“If that’s what she wants, that’s what we will do but I’d prefer just close relations”
“Me too”
Mum pulls out a pad of paper from the shelf and a pen.
“Who are we inviting when it comes to family?”
I look to Carter
“Obviously Ella, Aaron, there kids, there parents, all the grandparents, Baylee, caden and honestly I don’t know who else?”
Our family was complicated, they always treated carter like he was a bomb ready to explode. They never gave him a chance and then Adlai came along and they treated her similarly so we just stopped going to family events around 10 years ago, unless of course it was to do with our brother and sister, Mark and Ashley or their kids or grandkids.
“Why don’t we let Adlai decide. She’s more forgiving then we are so she might want them there”
I suggest, the girl hadn’t even said yes yet.
“Yeah it’s her wedding let her choose”
Carter adds, to say he hates those members of the family would be wrong, but he has no time for them.
he always tried so hard for me until they basically sent me into a meltdown and after that he put his foot down and cut contact with most of them, except a few here and there and I have to say our lives have been drama free and happy since.
“What about aunt May, she always refuses to come to family things because it’s too far to travel and she would rather stay out of the drama but she might come if you zap her here?”
My aunt May was a wild child, like a literal wolf child. She was found in the woods, raised by her mother in wolf form.
When she came she couldn’t even walk properly, nobody had even talked to her before. She was being raised to basically become a guard dog.
They were planning on making her change early and never let her change back but when my nana lilly found her with the help of Baylee and her vision she became Baylees twin in a way.
they were around the same age and she was the only real friend Baylee ever had, she was beta to Baylees pack with her husband and mate Ryan but when they retired they took of to Australia with their kids and honestly we never really heard from them again.
they would visit nana in Africa and they in turn would visit her, Baylee and her always kept in contact but they just hated pack dynamics, they were similar to my nana Keagen, they just liked to be out of the way and live a normal life.
Their kids and grandkids belong to Australian packs and I have never actually met them but I would love to, if they are anything like my mum and nana then I can see myself liking them alot.
“Ask her, if they want to come I’d love to meet them and I can bring them here so they don’t have to fly”
Mum grins clapping her hands together, I kiss carter and take my seat at my desk and I get stuck into work as mum goes to pack a picnic.
Time moves so damn slow as I wait for word of how it went.

Adlais POV
I skip out of the gym as I finish my very last final, Gerald is waiting by the door with a huge grin on his face. Sluagh pushes forward to see him, he’s so damn beautiful it takes my breath away every single Time I lay eyes on him.
“How did it go?”
“Good, I finished early and checked it twice before handing it in”
I tell him, he was so invested in my education, he always has been. He sees how hard my parents work on the pack businesses and the running of the pack so it’s really important that I know what I’m taking on, plus Gerald homeschooled me up until it was time to start high school so me doing well means he did well.
“I’m so proud of you”
He tells me, stepping forward and taking both my hands, I gasp at the contact, his face splits out into a wide happy grin.
“Are you ready to come away with me for a while?”
I nod, my mouth was too dry to talk, he smiles taking one of my hands and he leads me out of the school surrounded by my guards. We jump into his car, the guards getting in the back, I loved my guards and I classed them as friends.
dad thinks Shaun would be a good choice for beta, and I think he’s right, Tomas my other guard will be gamma and head of my security taking over for Daniel who’s mums guard.
Daniel took a chosen mate a few years back and they just had a baby boy so he wants to cut his hours down and as Tom is my favourite guard and he’s the most organised and probably the smartest out of both of them, he will take his place but Daniel will continue on as mum's guard most of the time.
They are best friends and I class him as my uncle and it would be really weird not having him around or involved in my everyday life.
We drive to the edge of the forest by the small mountain within our territory, it had changed a lot over the years, going from no man's land to pack territory, houses had been build, stores and garages and play parks added to our territory.
It's like a little village outside our town. It was really peaceful like home, mum had created a sanctuary of love and calmness where we lived.
She was currently busy building a new house overlooking the lake on the other side of our house.
She was so talented but nobody was allowed to see it until it was completed.
