Chapter 1
Khloe's POV
It's Tuesday and I sit on my bed, staring at the tray of food right on the desk beside my bed. I've been sitting there for almost ten minutes in my uniform, a white shirt, a wine short skirt and a wine jacket. I'm very hungry but the thought of heading out again just to do the same things and be trampled upon again made me want to stay in, if only I could.
"You should eat. We have just ten minutes more." Adele said, applying make-up on her face.
I nod in approval and draw the tray closer to myself. I can't speak! Or at least I haven't spoken ever since an incident with my sister. All I can remember is I had a sister, the other details have escaped me. Adele thinks it's the trauma that has made me unable to speak and I agree. It's probably better being silent.
I go over my schedule for the day in my head and thankfully, I have no training classes today.
"Are you ready?" Adele asked, standing up and taking a swirl in front of the mirror. I stand in front of the mirror, looking at my outfit. This is a world where appearance and status matter too much. I'm plus sized, too tall for my weight and also have too many freckles on my face. That's not meeting up with the standards of the average Whitmore student. I sigh.
"Khloe?" Adele called. "Are you ready?"
Adele is always very cheerful. She's the exact definition of beauty. She's slim, curvy, charismatic and a bit tall.
I nodded.
"Good." Adele said as she carries her bag and we leave the room.
Our room is in the east wing of the Whitmore Academy. The east wing is the best in the whole academy and I am only there because Adele wants me there. Adele is from a very rich and powerful family, our rooms were mixed up in my first year in the academy and ever since, she hasn't left me to myself. She's the only good thing that has happened to me in the Academy.
Adele holds my hand immediately we get outside the east wing. She knows how claustrophobic I get when there are too many people around. Slowly and steadily, we walk past students dressed in the same color codes. Some students rip off their clothes as they transform into their wolves. It's something I've gotten used to seeing over the years.
Khloe leaves my hand for a second just to greet a friend when a guy bumps into me and I fall. I can sense he's about to apologize but when he sees my face, he keeps to himself.
"Next time, watch where you're going. I'm so lucky I didn't die from hitting so much fat." He said spitefully.
As expected, there is nothing I can do than to bow. He's of a much higher status quo than I am and pissing him off would be the worst thing I can do.
"You're also unlucky that you hit my friend and did not apologize." Adele says before hitting him. A strike from her sends him flying across the yard. As much as I enjoyed watching that, I could not help but think about the consequences. Adele is a very powerful wolf, one of the most powerful student wolves and nobody messes with her. Nobody messes with me when I'm with her either, but that's just one of a hundred times.
The boy stands up, very hurt and leaves the yard. Thankfully, we didn't draw much attention. We were about leaving when the "golden girls" walked in. They alighted majestically from their Lamborghini. They are the only ones that live outside the academy.
The golden girls are Sophie, Caramel and Laura. Sometimes, I wonder why they're so loved when they're just annoying brutes that lack every sense of empathy. Their skirts were shorter than the normal ones and they exude beauty. Maybe I am a bit jealous of them but what does it matter?
Adele leaves angrily when she sees that the attention of everyone has diverted to the girls. I also turn to leave but I am not so lucky.
Sophie walks before me and her book falls right in front of me. With reflex, I bent and picked up the book.
"Now, I can't use the book anymore." She laments all of a sudden. Her clique snarl and growl angrily as she slapped me.
I bow to apologize but it has no effect. My face stings horribly.
"I have to burn the filth off this book just as I'd wish to burn you along with it." Sophie says and tears begin to form in my eyes.
I was trying to form words but nothing worked, the words didn't come.
"Can't you speak?" Laura asked meanly.
"She just can't." Caramel said and they laughed.
"Even if she can, I don't want to hear the filthy words that'll just come out of her mouths." Sophie said.
That statement makes the tears I've been trying to hold back rush freely. I'm already used to being talked down on like this but every time, they always get to me.
The attention of everyone in the yard is set on us.
"Kneel!" Sophie commanded and as a powerless wolf with no Adele around to defend me, slowly I began falling on my knees. I was almost on the ground when Kaden and his friends walked in. They totally stole all the attention from the ongoing drama between Sophie and I. Kaden and his friends are the male version of the golden girls. They are hot, handsome, rich and the dream of most girls in Whitmore Academy.
"What's going on?" Kaden asked Sophie, his baritone voice shaking me a bit.
"This filthy thing is annoying me." Sophie responds as I wipe off my tears and stand properly.
"You should not waste your time on things like this anymore." Kaden said, leaving with Sophie. The others followed.
Kaden and Sophie are a very horrible match. Sophie does not deserve the love she gets from Kaden but what can I say? The moon goddess does whatever she wants.
****
I rush to class with hopes that no one would notice me but Adele did. I'm lucky I'm in the same class as hers. On entry into the academy, a series of tests are taken and that determines the class one falls in. Adele and I are in the Sapphire class, next to the diamond class where the Golden girls and Kaden are. It is whispered around that the golden girls bought their way into the Diamond class.
As soon as I enter the class, Adele walked up to me.
"I am very sorry I wasn't in the yard when that happened. Hannah told me about it. I really wish I was there to smack her face." Adele apologized.
She's on the bad side of the golden girls for always fighting for me.
I force a smile and she hugged me before classes start.
"The wolf of fire has the ability to control fire at his disposal, the wolf of water can control ice and water anytime, the wolf of nature is the most beautiful of all..." Mr Charles, the history teacher goes on and on. I know too much about the folklores already and the class is already boring me. Sophie's words keep replaying in my head.
"Check the announcement wall to check your opponents for the Whitmore sports competition." Mr Charles said after the class. There was a buzz of excitement in the class. The sports competition is one of the most interesting events of the academy.
I walk with Adele to check the list and to see who I'm fighting. Adele has checked hers.
"I'm fighting a girl named Aria. She's in blue class." Adele said with a bit of sadness in her voice. Fighting a person of such class is totally beneath her and Adele loves a good challenge. Adele kept scrolling to see who I'd be fighting.
"No way!!" Adele said, gasping with disbelief. Her voice held both fear and concern for me.
I hurriedly looked at the list for myself to see who I'm fighting.
"Absolutely no way!" I thought. I'm totally doomed.
