Morning Revelations

280 Words
The morning sunlight washed warmly across the plush king-sized bed. Alora blinked slowly, shifting against the crisp sheets. The space beside her was empty, but the faint scent of cedar and expensive cologne lingered on the pillow. She stretched lazily, a soft smile playing on her lips as memories of the previous night rushed back. They hadn't just talked; they had broken down every remaining barrier between them, leaving nothing unsaid. A soft knock sounded at the bedroom door, followed by the slow turn of the handle. Hayden walked in carrying a silver tray with coffee, fresh pastries, and cut fruit. He looked impossibly relaxed in casual gray sweatpants and a simple black t-shirt, his hair slightly tousled from sleep. "Good morning, sleepyhead," Hayden said, a genuine, easy smile gracing his face—a look few people in the world ever got to see. "Is this standard onboarding procedure for Vance Enterprises?" Alora joked, sitting up and pulling the duvet up around her shoulders. "Only for the most valuable analysts," Hayden replied, setting the tray across her lap before sitting on the edge of the mattress. He reached out to tuck a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "Though I'm afraid we actually have to go into the office today. There's a major board meeting at ten." Alora groaned playfully, leaning her forehead against his shoulder. "Do we have to? Can't we just call in sick and stay here?" "Tempting," Hayden laughed, wrapping an arm around her shoulders and pulling her closer. "Very tempting. But Marcus is leading a presentation today, and I need to be there to make sure he doesn't try to push through any unauthorized restructuring."
