The Boardroom Clash

By 9:55 AM, the atmosphere on the executive floor was thick with tension. Alora sat at her usual desk outside Hayden's office, her fingers flying across her keyboard as she finalized the cross-departmental risk reports. At precisely 10:00 AM, the glass doors of the grand boardroom slid open, and the senior executives began filing in. Marcus Vance walked out near the front, looking exceptionally pleased with himself, flanked by two senior vice presidents. As Marcus passed Alora’s desk, he paused, shooting her a slick, knowing grin. "Good luck in there today, Alora. You might need it," Marcus murmured cryptically before entering the main elevator lobby. Ten minutes later, Hayden stepped out of his office, his suit impeccably tailored, his expression a mask of cold, unyielding authority. He caught Alora’s eye across the room and gave her a subtle, reassuring nod before walking into the boardroom. Inside, the long mahogany table was packed. Marcus stood at the head of the digital projector screen, clicking through a slide deck detailing an aggressive expansion into an unvetted foreign market. "As you can see, gentlemen," Marcus was saying smoothly as Hayden took his seat at the center, "the projected returns on this logistics venture outweigh the compliance risks by a factor of three. I move that we approve immediate funding." Hayden leaned back in his leather chair, resting his hands flat on the table. His dark eyes locked onto his cousin. "And exactly which risk assessment team signed off on these compliance numbers, Marcus? Because my desk has zero record of it."
