She was never meant to be his wife. Just a substitute. A placeholder.

Five years. One miscarriage. A divorce she didn't see coming. And a family that chose her sister over her bleeding body on the ground.

Eveline Miller had nothing left. Or so she thought.

One reckless night with a dangerous stranger changed everything. She didn't know his name. Didn't know his power. Didn't know that in M City, the name Damien Crowe makes grown men look away.

Now he won't let her disappear.

And she's not sure she wants to.

The Divorce
"Maybe this was what it was always meant to be" Standing in a hotel room at she stared at the couple that shattered what little hope she had left--her husband, Kent, tangled in bed with her sister Kathrine. With trembling hands, water falling slowly from her eyes. Her chest constricted painfully. Kathrine, the woman Kent was supposed to marry. Eveline had always known Kent's heart belonged to her sister. Everyone had. But the day Kathrine fled, leaving him humiliated before world and their families, Eveline had been pushed into her place to be the sacrificial lamb. To save her family from disgrace. To calm Kent's rage. To patch up the scandal and evading disaster. She had tried, to love him and did, tried to be the wife that Kent would one day love back. She shed weight till she had an eating disorder, she learned to cook his favorite dishes, had stopped hanging out with her friends, had reshaped her life to fit his taste. All in a desperate attempt to prove her worth to him. But Kent remained ice. Indifferent. The only time she had a crack out of him was the night he came back from a meeting all drunk. His desire then was overwhelming—enough to sip through her defenses and leave her clinging to him in a haze of hope. That night gave her something precious. A child. From then on, Kent disappeared into work and cold silence, coming home only to have s*x with her, no matter how tired she appeared. And one day it all stopped. Kent got fully buried in work, leaving her alone in that vast mansion that felt more like a gilded up cage. She bore her solitude with quiet resilience, speaking to her unborn child as though it was her only confidant. Her comfort. Her hope. But fate had been cruel. Her child was gone before it could take its first breath. Kent... he hadn't even flinched. No comfort or acknowledgment. He had left her to suffer, to bleed, burying her pain alone. And now, this. Seeing him with Kathrine in a bed together. Her sister's return had reignited what never truly died between them. "Hahhh" A bitter laugh left her lips, subtle and sharp as glass. Lowering her hands to her stomach, caressing the emptiness where life once stirred. She walked out the room, not interrupting the couple. Who still didn't notice her presence. "Your father didn't even know you existed", she whispered. She didn't even know how she got to a bar. Sitting down ordering a drink in her hand. "Maybe its better this way. Growing up without love... from a father would have broken you." Drowning bottle after bottle. "Why should I stay?... it's time." She breathed out as she downed another gulp of wine. "Time to leave this place. To leave that piece of sh*t. To start again from the beginning and leave for a change and leave for myself." She turned her head. Seeing a group of men stepping in and one in particular, caught her eyes. Walking up to him. "Well, hello there handsome... how about I buy you a drink hmm." She said she leaned on him, touching his chest. Leaning into whisper in his ear. "And maybe have a good time after words." She said smiling. Oblivious to the fact that everyone at the bar at that moment were frozen still in fear. Some have already shaken their heads as they await this silly woman's fate. One of the men standing behind the man walked up to him and made an attempt to pry her away from his boss, only to be shut a cold look as he withdrew back in fear of his own life. The man turned his gaze to the brown- haired lady in his arms, bent over as he whispered in her ear. "Not here though, shall we head up." Hehehe "I like the way you think... okay let's go." She says follows him up to the VVIP suite. They got to the room and Eveline was the first to lean in, placing a French yet sloppy kiss on his lip. Causing the man to smile, grabbing her by the waist and leading her to the bed. Kiss sounds could be hard in the room as clothes came off, flying through the air. Haffed sounds, as their bodies tangled in sync with each other. The night was long and steamy, as they seemed not to get enough with each other.
