CHAPTER 1 Hugo's Eye's
She moved through the room like a flame bright, fierce, completely unaware of the storm about to break.
I watched her from across the crowded ballroom, every detail etched into my mind the way her eyes scanned the crowd, the tension hidden behind her calm.
She was the daughter of my greatest enemy. The daughter of the man who tried to destroy everything I built.
And yet… I found myself drawn to her in a way I didn’t expect.
When she approached the bar, I stepped forward and blocked her path.
Her eyes widened just slightly, surprise flashing before she masked it with caution.
“Xaifer,” I said, voice low and steady.
She looked at me, her lips parting in question.
“Do I know you?”
I kept my smile subtle, unreadable.
“Not yet.”
The truth was, I had watched her from the shadows, learned her every move, but I would never admit that—not now.
I needed her to think this was the first time we met.
Her gaze hardened, eyes sharp.
“I don’t know what game you’re playing, but I’m not your enemy.”
I studied her, the fire in her eyes challenging me.
“Maybe not,” I said quietly. “But enemies have a way of becoming something else entirely.”
I left the threat hanging between us.
Inside, my mind raced. She was a prize to claim. A dangerous flame to tame. And no matter what she thought, I would find a way to make her mine
She started to turn away, the sharpness in her eyes telling me she wanted nothing more to do with me.
But I wasn’t about to let her slip through my fingers that easily.
I stepped closer, close enough for her to feel my breath, to sense the cold intent beneath my calm.
“You don’t get to walk away,” I said, voice low, almost a growl.
“Not tonight. Not ever.”
Her body tensed. For a moment, I thought she might fight — and part of me hoped she would.
But she just stared, defiant, fragile.
I reached out and caught her wrist — not rough, but firm. My grip was a silent claim.
“You’re going to listen to me, Xaifer,” I whispered, the heat in my voice contradicting the chill in my eyes.
“Because from now on, you’re part of my world. Whether you like it or not.”
Her breath hitched. For a second, I saw fear flash behind her fierce gaze. Good.
She was mine now.
And I intended to make sure she never forgot it.
