OLIVER'S POV
He rode his bike to Cassie's first, as she was the closest to his house, he waited for her, so they could stop by Matt's and then cycle to school together .
"Morning" Matt greeted as he rode past them. Cassie and Oliver turned to face each other , the girl rolling her eyes and then mock-imitating the greeting the blond boy had nonchalantly given , before following behind him, he had a dark green hoodie on and black jeans , so neither his hair nor his back was any way in view, Oliver had worn the basic go-to black Tee and jean combo, where as Cassie had gone all out, putting on a pink short skirt, with a cute white blouse, she pulled her hair in a half up do, finishing it off the beautiful strands with a pink bow.
She was the definition of your everyday cheerleader you'd find on screen, and to top it all off, she was actually a cheerleader. Oliver knew if he had been the slightest bit of straight or even bi, he'd be on his knees for Cassie. But.... He didn't swing that way.
One —he loved men.
two—The girl was his friend.
three—Owen.
He felt this was the best time to ask Matt the meaning of the weird group that was created last night , exhaustion had killed his curiosity, he needed to know now.
"Matt" he called, only getting a "yup"'as a reply from the boy up front.
"What's the meaning of 'The B's" he inquired almost laughing at the name, it sounded worse coming out of his mouth, than he had read it in his head
"It's for the three of us" he deadpanned, like that answer could definitely explain all there is to the name.
"You'd have to shed more light on that blondie, C'mon, beat the stereotype, I dare you" Matt was smiling at him now .
"Blonde , brunette and b***h" he practically yelled as he slowed down to look at Oliver's expression. He was a laughing fit now, Oliver had an annoyed look on his face, because he knew who "b***h" was meant for, Cassie only shook her head mouthing the words "dumb and dumber" , as she cycled passed them.
"Well you're dummy!" Matt yelled from behind. "I think we need to change the group's name to The D's" he said with seriousness, like he really was considering the idea.
"We are gonna be late for school, cmon" Oliver rode past Matt too in a fit to catch up with Cassie. He hadn't mentioned the new boy that they may or may not be seeing today, he wanted to see this boy first before he mentioned anything.
Immediately they got to school, the group dispersed, Cassie going to join her other friends Sophie and Milan , whilst Matt made a bee line to the volleyball team, he didn't play but he always hung out with them still, that's as a result of him wanting to play but not finding the courage to do so, he feared he'd be bad at it , and also he didn't believe in the concept of trying too hard, it's just a club but overtime it'll demand a lot from him, coming to school early, practice nonstop , physical fitness, balancing sports with schoolwork, not that his performance was anywhere excellent, but he knew this because of the friends he had, these train of thoughts affected his choice big time, yet, him not being part of the team didn't mean he couldn't hang out with them, they had more in common than he and his best friend did , from partying, gaming , to girls—well Matt didn't know that they didn't have THAT in common, Oliver wasn't out yet, and he didn't plan to be.
He too understood this, and was happy the boy had people to do the things he loved with, they didn't have much in common and it was fine, they were still each others best friend.
Initially when Matt and Cassie had made new friends it was awkward for him to walk alone through the halls, but now he felt indifference, atleast the three of them met at lunch and had few classes together, a couple with Cassie , one with Matt and one with the both of them.
He made his way to his first class of the day, spotting a chair close to the window, plopping on it and placing his notes on the desk, the English teacher Mr Glassman had arrived with a pile of answer sheets, obviously from last weeks test. It had only been the first week but the middle aged man was keen on...., how did it put it 'raising their academic morale' .
"Good morning class, when you hear your names you come on here and pick up your results" he announced while he adjusted his glasses, it made the boy remember he once had those, but opted for contants, he wouldn't beat the 'nerd' allegations if he kept on wearing it, he was an excellent student, never skipped classes, always did well , read books anywhere and everywhere, both in the fields, the gym, or at lunch, he took AP classes, he had no interest in physical fitness nor did he participate in any sports, glasses would have been the perfect icing on the cake.
The teacher began announcing the names while he grabbed the pencil that always sat on his ears, twirling it as he stared out the window, with his other hand on his chin and his arm placed on the desk, he watched cars, and passersby, whilst tuning out the noise and Mr glassmans voice , in his head he was wondering what his dad would be up to right now, if he was thinking of him at that moment like he was, he missed the man, leaving several texts and updates but hardly ever receiving a reply. he looked at the pencil in his hand and wondered about his late grandfather also , who had gifted him the object before he passed away a mere 2 weeks after, he was still lost in thought when he heard a husky voice greeting and then going for an introduction, he had totally forgotten he was supposed to watch out for a new student, yes the school was so big that it'd be hard to find him but at the same time it's not ever so often that someone moves into town and begins his senior year, if he hadn't heard of any new student by the end of the day, he figured he'll just ask Mrs Wilson the principals secretary, they were tight like that. But to think he'd see him that same morning, at the first period and in same class, the coincidence was staggering.
Oliver , turned his direction to the boy in front of the class. Holy s**t he was cute, f**k cute, he was hot, if he were a girl he'd be gushing same way the girls in the class were right now, he couldn't blame them. The said hot guy, had the perfect smooth Tan skin, dark hair that framed his forehead, and even darker eyes, his face didn't beg the attention, he commanded it, his jaw was sharp , lips set in a natural almost-frown, a piercing on his brows and on one of his ears, every single thing he wore was black, from his tank top , the jeans and leather jacket . His eyes were scanning the whole class, every glance, every breath , every shift in posture was deliberate, the brown headed boy was reading him. He was intrigued.
"...my name is Mateo, nice to meet you" he said calmly, raising a hand to his head, his voice was like butter, and the accent made it even made it more worth listening to.
"Welcome Mateo , you can sit...." Mr glassman searched through the class for an empty seat, his eyes landing at the one in front of Oliver, causing the boy to hold his breath, he didn't trust himself not to act awkwardly or shamelessly gawk at the very hot Mateo so he did what his body told him to, which is to turn away whilst twirling his pencil.
"... in front of Hoffman , our star student" Oliver internally groaned at the last part. he gestured towards the seat and immediately turned back to calling the names for the test scores.
Oliver fixated on absolutely nothing while his head was facing outside the window. He waited for the boy to sit before relaxing, he smelled like mint, not the icy kind, but the green mint kind, he took a very quick glimpse at the back of his head. Even his head was hot, he internally winced at the jealousy that steered in his heart for the boy, he placed his pencil on his ears at the same time Mr glassman called his name.
"Hoffman...." He waited for the boy to get up , when he was with earshot he continued in a hushed whisper "... outstanding as always" . He handed the sheet to the boy, who scanned it quickly. An 'A plus" as always . He gave the teacher a forced smile making his way to his seat.
Mateo was watching him, his facial expression changing swiftly, from an inquisitive frown to a smirk, he was smirking at him!. Oliver became nervous, why was he nervous , he scolded himself, keeping his eyes on his desk, as he approached it.
"Hey star student" , the dark haired boy greeted in a sing-song tone. Oliver only shook his head in disapproval.
"No, don't do that" he answered taking his seat. Mateo's smirk was now a full on smile , he turned to look at the green eyed boy, giving him a once over .
"Nope" he said before focusing on the English teacher.
"Kill me" Oliver muttered as he opened his book to take notes.
