Chapter 2

*Nadia’s POV* The large rogue bared his teeth at my mother’s wolf, causing a growl to escape her lips. Without further hesitation, the rogue pounced on my mother, knocking her over. “Leave Nadia. Leave now!” My mother mind linked me. I sobbed as I watched the rogue overpower my mother. I couldn’t leave her here to die. Yes, my mother was a former beta, but we lost two years of training. This rogue also seems abnormally large. I shook my head before jumping on the rogue’s back and clawing at his face. He growled ferociously before shaking me off. He turned to me, ready to pounce on me when mother jumped in the way. His jaw gripped her neck tightly before shaking it. He was trying to kill her right before my eyes. Something came over me at that moment, making me jump over his and snap my jaw on his hind legs. He let go of my mother’s neck, howling in pain, before turning to me. My heart was beating out of control. Not because I had a large rogue ready to kill me, but because mother’s wolf lay motionless on the floor. “Focus, Nadia!” Ambar growled at me. “You will get us all killed!” “Okay, okay. Calm down, woman!” I snapped back right as the rogue clawed my shoulder. I hissed in pain but managed to get away from his grip before he could do too much damage. The rogue jumped up to knock me over, but I clawed at his face angrily, making him howl. I looked up to find that I had clawed his eye out. “That is going to look ugly in the morning.” Ambar snickered. I shook my head before kicking the rogue off and shoving my claws into his stomach. Clawing his stomach won’t necessarily kill him, since he will heal, but it should slow him down long enough for me to get my mother and find somewhere safe for us. Goddess, why did my life have to be so difficult? I shifted back and ran over to my mother. I tried grabbing my mother’s wolf and carrying her, but my injured shoulder was not being helpful. “Fūck!” I cried as I fell to the ground with my mother. “What are we going to do, Ambar?” I asked my wolf in panic. “We will have to come back for her.” She said. “Are you crazy? They will kill her!” I growled impatiently. “Who?” She asked. “For one, that—” I was saying as I searched for the rogue who I could no longer find. “What the heck?” I said under my breath. “Let’s drag her to a hidden spot and let’s seek help.” She said as I shifted. Ambar snapped her jaw around mother’s wolf’s leg and dragged her in between some fallen trees that were a few miles down the road we were taking. “This should be good for now.” Ambar said as she rolled her shoulder. “Don’t worry. That should heal in a few hours.” “Why does it take so long for us to heal?” I asked in annoyance. “Besides, that scrawny body of yours—” She was saying before I gasped. “That’s fūcked up.” I muttered, making her snicker. “I’m just messing with you. But for real. We haven’t trained since before we left on our sixteenth birthday. It has been over two years, so, of course, our body will be weaker than most.” She said. “Whatever.” I mumbled as I sped up through the forest, seeking some sort of help. As I ran for help, I prayed the goddess blessed me with luck this time. Hopefully, I find someone willing to help and not kill me on the spot. *Caleb’s POV* “I want to be alone, Annabelle.” I growled impatiently. I could barely tolerate her. The only reason why I had agreed to marry her was to give my pack a luna. It was time. Even if my wolf and I hated it. “But baby.” She pouted as she sat on my lap, grinding her hips on my crotch. I clenched my fists on the armrest of my desk chair. Let’s just say that if I let go, Beau, my wolf, would probably take over and slice her throat. She did have an annoying voice, so I can’t blame him. “So, why marry her!” Beau hissed. “There aren’t many options! Most people our age have their mate already.” I told him. “We have been over this already. She isn’t that bad.” I told him just as Annabelle turned to bite my ear and whisper. I cringed at the feeling, making Beau laugh. “You keep telling yourself that.” He chuckled before going to the back of my mind. “I said that I wanted to be alone. Did I not?” I asked through clenched teeth before pushing her off my lap. She hissed as she glared up at me. “Do you want to fūcking die?” I growled impatiently. Before she could reply, Kimberly, my beta, walked into the office. “You growled?” She chuckled, making me roll my eyes. I looked at Annabelle and motioned for her to leave. She stomped away as I ran a hand over my face tiredly. “What is this I hear that you can’t cover your border patrol today?” I asked her. “Yeah, my pup is throwing up.” She said with a shrug. “You don’t have any pups.” I said, squinting my eyes at her. “Yeah, my mate. Same difference.” She chuckled. “What is wrong with him now?” I asked her, rolling my eyes. “I don’t know. That is why I was on my way to the clinic, but Mr. Alpha decided to growl at me over mind link.” She said as she crossed her arms. “Yeah, yeah.” I muttered. “You really should consider waiting for your fated mate or at least picking someone else. She is making you even more—” She was saying before I stood up. “I fūcking know! I don’t have a choice.” I hissed. Kimberly and I had been best friends growing up. We tried the whole dating thing but decided that it would be best to end it since she was my beta. That worked great because a few years later she found her mate. Lucky her. As my beta and best friend, I valued her opinion, but there isn’t much I can do now. The pack needs a luna whether I like it or not. “I’m going to cover your patrol. I need to get out of these four walls, anyway. You know, before I kill her.” I said as I stood on my feet. “Have fun.” She snickered as she followed me out of my office. I forgot what the meaning of having fun was. Maybe someday, I will find something to make me happy again.
