Chapter 2

"Get up!" I felt the sting of a whip on my back and my eyes immediately flew open.  "You're going to be late for school." I scurried out of bed, blocking lashes that she sent at me as I ran to the bathroom across the hall. "Hurry up in there." She banged the door before going downstairs. I spent less than ten minutes in the shower, then I rushed into my room and threw some clothes on. Taking my knapsack and sprinted downstairs. If you need to eat you have just five minutes to get that. I rounded up my breakfast and made a quick peanut butter sandwich. I walked over to the door and waited for her. "Come on, let's go now." She opened the door and roughly brought me out by the hand. We walked out the yard and onto the side since we had to catch the bus. Mother greeted the neighbours warmly, if I didn't know or experience the real person she is, I would've been fooled, but I know different. I should be taking the school bus, but my mother insists that she takes me to school herself. She hates me having friends, whether it's boys or girls. Boys are totally out of that question, I'm basically not supposed to be around any boys, much less for talking to them. If I even get caught looking at a boy, I earn myself an instant scolding on the spot. It's so embarrassing. The bus pulled up slowly. We got on, as she paid our fare and took a seat right at the front. It didn't take long before, we arrived at my school. Most kids hate school, but I honestly like school. The teachers are really nice to me and I don't have friends so I just stay by myself and study when I have a free period. School is my place of comfort since that's the only place I can go or ever go for that matter of fact. If it wasn't for dad, I wouldn't be going to school, and my mother promised that she'd let me continue school and she keeps her word. "Now, be good." She walked me to the big lawn in front of the school, she patted my head and left. I would love to hug and kiss my mom, but I'm afraid to be shoved away, yelled at or beaten. I turned around and I headed into the school. The hallways are the same as every day. Loud chattering and laughing between friends, enemies sending glares at each other, people who talk to each other but gossips about them. As usual, rumours spreads like wild fire, funny thing is I'm in none of those categories, if I were I think my mother would beat me to death. Well, just another day of school. I walked over to my locker to grab my books. "Hey, Stefanie." Becky leaned beside my locker. "Hey." I continued stuffing the books I need for my morning classes. "What's up?" "Nothing much, well now about to head to class." I shut my locker door. "But the bell hadn't wrung yet." "Yeah I know, but I gotta do some review for my test." I slung my knapsack on my back. "Oh, what grade are you in?" "10th." I started walking and she followed. "Waw, I thought you're fourteen." "I am. I skipped 9th." "Oh, waw must be extremely smart." "I guess, maybe it's luck." I lied, I actually devote myself to my school work to get away from the stress and sadness, so yeah I'm pretty smart, you can say. "If you say so. Wanna have lunch with me?" I stopped at the door of my class, and she came close to me. "Yeah, sure." "Alrighty then, see you later." She slapped my ass hard and squeezed it. I gasped, she smiled before leaving. No one's ever done that to me. I mean I have been beaten on my ass, but she slapped it hard and squeezed it and to tell you the truth I actually liked it. There must be something wrong with me. I went into my class and reviewed what I did last night as I ate what I took for breakfast. Finally, lunch has arrived. I did well in my test, not that I got the results, I just know what I did. Although I took all my notes and paid attention in the classes which passed earlier, that feeling I felt this morning by what Becky did, I couldn't stop thinking of it when I had nothing to do. I went over to my locker to change books and wait for Becky. "Hey." Becky came up behind me and whispered into my ear which made me shiver. "Hi." I turned around almost breathless. "How was your test?" she grinned, as she moved back playing with her hair. "Was great." I smiled. "You ready?" "Nice. Sure let's go." She took my hand in hers, she dragged me towards the exit. "Where are we going tho?" I asked as we walked down the nearby strip. "Where do you want to go?" "I don't know." "Well, how does pizza in the park sound?" "I don't know," I said nervously. "I'll treat you." "Oh, no no no no." "Well I am offering and it'll be rude to me if you don't accept it. Don't worry we'll be back before the next period starts." "Okay." I signed. We walked into an Italian pizza shop and she bought a medium size box. This girl must really eat a lot. We walked to a kinda secluded spot in the park and sat down under a large tree. "Thanks so much for lunch." I took a slice. "Stefanie don't sweat it, really." She bit a piece of hers. "So tell me about yourself." "There's nothing much to know really." "Okay. What do you like doing?" "Umm, reading and writing." "You do anything fun?" "Those are fun." I laughed. "Yeah, but I mean partying, going out with friends, you know, chill." "I don't have friends." I whispered, "and I can't go out." "Oh. Why?" "My mom. It's complicated and stressful I don't wanna talk about it." "It's fine." "So what about you?" "Well I always go out and I have a lot of friends perse, just chill friends, not friends I speak to like how I'm speaking to you now." "Oh. Do you have any brothers or sisters?" "Oh yeah, I got an older brother. He's in twelfth grade actually." "Oh." "Yeah but mom and dad are going to ship him off to college after graduation." "That's nice." "How about you?" "I'm an only child." "Waw, you're lucky. You must be really happy." "I wish." "Why aren't you happy?" I flinched. "Oh, I forgot, I'm sorry." "Yeah." "So do you have a boyfriend?" "Haha. No." I took my last slice of pizza. "Lol, never ever!?" "Nope." I checked my watch. "We should get going though." "Yeah, right." She folded up the empty box and put it in a trash can nearby. "Did you enjoy lunch?" She smiled. "Yes." I put my arms in the crook of hers and we walked back over to the school. As soon as we came back to the compound, the bell rang. "See you after school?" "Well if my mom hasn't come to pick me up early." "I'll leave it alone." She sighed. "See ya later." She gave me a kiss on the cheek and went. I don't know but I like her. I stalked off to my English class.
