Our Love's Strength

Chapter 1

It's a stormy night and Jia is in her room on the cité complex with her next door neighbor and friend. She's sitted on the carpet, legs crossed facing her friend as they state at each other no one saying a word.

They're both in their first semester of their final year at the University preparing for their exams before the April break."I feel so drained Jia, my brain can't take anymore of this" Gina complains as she stares at her friend who looks distant but physically present.

"uh! you should forget about that guy, this isn't healthy for you and your exams are around the corner" Gina complains again

"I've tried Gina, he has definitely ghosted me knowing that I love him so much. For crying out loud he's my first love" Jia cries out and her friend immediately joins her on the carpet

"Oh! my!! I think you've been charmed, you haven't loved any guy this much not even Arthur" Gina tries to sympathize

"But Davis was different at the beginning, we became very good friends and I saw how good he was. He showed me love and also understands my issues with my Mum" Jia says sobbing lightly while her friend hugs her to help console her broken heart.

Jia is nineteen years old but will be turning twenty in a few months but her friend Gina is a year older than her and she considers Gina as an older sister. Jia has a strained relationship with her Mum which began the day she over heard her Mum and Dad talking with each other in their bedroom. She discovered that her Dad wasn't her biological father and she was just an illegitimate child from an affair her mother had with another before meeting her stepfather.

She was heart broken as a child who was only eight years old, taking in the new information wasn't easy but she over came all when her nana talked to her and tried to make her understand the situation.

This caused a big gap between her mother and her as her mother will always remind her of how she shattered her dreams of having a better career and giving up her youth just to take care of a baby. Her Mum will always remind her that she was a mistake which always shattered her heart.

Her stepfather was a very kind man who considered her as his own and never discriminated between her and her younger sister But things started changing with her Dad when she enrolled at the University.

Her Dad being a shoe retail store owner had a lot of customers including a female lecturer from Jia's University but she wasn't in her department. This lecturer caused a rift between father and daughter without knowing. It all happened in Jia's second year at the University of Buea when she had her final year exams.

Almost all the students had finished their exams except the students of the Banking and finance programs which Jia belonged to. Their program was delayed due to one of their courses being extended to the next week which caused Jia to stay another week at school. Her Stepfather had called up the lecturer who was his customer to ask if the University students had finished their exams, since Jia had not come home.

The lady confirmed that all the students were done with their exams and Jia's Dad became furious thinking Jia didn't want to help him with the store. Without wanting to listen to any explanation from Jia, her Mum called her up and asked her to come home immediately, making her to miss her last course.

Her Dad cut off communication with her even though they lived in one house and her mother did nothing to solve the issue. Adding to her list of problems now was her boyfriend Davis who has been ghosting her for 3weeks after taking her virginity. This is why poor Jia seems distraught and heart broken.
