Prologue
When the universe sparked into existence, five powerful beings came with it. There was: Green Mother- matron of the land, Blue Father- patron of the oceans, Blood Lord- ruler of all life forces, Moon Goddess- queen of the moon and the night, and Sun God- king of the sun and the day. Each one created a guardian creature to be their acolytes and champions. Green Mother molded clay and rock to make Trolls, powerful stone creatures with a keen sense of duty and love for the Earth. Blue Father shaped sea foam and wrapped it with seaweed to create the elegant Selkie, water-dwelling creatures with as much grace and power as the ocean itself. Blood Lord pooled his life essence to form Vampires, a race of blood and shadow that hold all life in balance. Moon Goddess concentrated moonbeams into Werewolves, shifters whose power comes from the moon to protect the world of the night. Sun God focused his energies together to make Dragons, lizard-like beings of fire and light to spread prosperity and life in the world. At first, the five higher beings worked in harmony to shape the universe. Green Mother and Blue Father shared the planet equally, creating the Earth and the oceans. Moon Goddess and Sun God shared the heavens by taking turns to allow all manner of creatures time to play and rest. Blood Lord created all kinds of minor creatures to live in this new world. All five Guardian races lived in harmony as well. All decided on the common humans as a shift form that would allow them to meet with the other races peacefully. Time went by, and the guardian races began to develop their own cultures and beliefs. The Trolls became greedy, hoarding all of Earth's riches inside their deep caverns. Those who remained near humans began to tax the humans who could pay and eat those who couldn't. Humans began exploring the depths of the ocean and killing whatever they found. This prompted the Selkies to retreat into the coldest depths of the Northern Seas and fade into lore, their stories kept alive by human fishermen telling tall tales. Through a series of unfortunate misunderstandings, Vampires were stereotyped by their worst attributes. Shunned and feared by all living things, their hearts grew cold, and they embraced the evil role. Werewolves, having always had the deep-set culture of the pack, began to build huge complexes where only the wolves of a pack could enter. They became territorial and aggressive towards anything other than their packs. Even members of other packs were bearly tolerated, if at all. As technology and manufacturing became more and more advanced, the Dragons gravitated towards becoming the pillars of industry. They shed their scales and wings and donned suits, becoming some of the richest and most violent moguls in the world. The guardian races of the higher beings became secluded, suspicious, and prideful, each one thinking they were better than the others. Eventually, each race even forgot the purpose of their existence, to promote peace throughout the world amidst all living things. Thousands of years have passed since the universe first began. It is no longer the divine utopia the higher beings created. The world is spiraling into war, hatred, and darkness. All will soon be lost... or perhaps there is still a small chance for the world to be mended... ------------------------------------ Aurora wakes on the morning of her 18th birthday. The slightest hint of sunlight has magically reached down the fathoms of the North Sea to her grotto. Aurora snuggles in her soft seaweed bed, knowing that it will be a whole year before she will enjoy the feel of it again. Don't get her wrong, she was very excited that she would get to sluff off her warm seal coat for the first time today and walk on land as humans did, but she would miss her underwater sanctuary while on her year-long journey up above. Selkies spent their childhood and teen years appearing as fur seals. The higher the rank of the Selkie, the whiter their fur. When they turned 18, they were able to take off their fur and transform into a human, at least in appearance. Then they had to spend some time above the ocean learning about the world and finding ways to protect the Selkie way of life from the murderous creatures that called land home. A low-rank Selkie only was required to stay on land for a month, any longer, and they may forget themselves and where they hid their fur. The higher the rank, the longer the required stay, and the longer the Selkie was able to retain their memories. Aurora was the youngest daughter of the ruler of the Tide Clan. King Magnus was powerful but kind to his people. He had a mate, though they had been unable to have children of their own for many years. Instead, they had adopted five orphans of various ranks. Eventually, they did conceive children, a set of twins. The older one was a boy whom they named Boral. He was strong, but his fur had a gray-blue undercoat. The younger one was Aurora. Though she was the youngest of all the king's children, she was immediately chosen as the next in line because of her blinding, almost metallic, pure white fur. She was destined for great things. Today would be the start of her journey to save the world. Just no one knew that yet.
