chapter twelve

"oh so you brought me here to help you shop? I know you're style is a little... rough but it's nothing I can't fix" 

"I have better style than you" Tobias responded 

"Oh please, you wish" I laughed 

I looked over his outfit while trying my best not to think about what was under it. 

"Black jacket, grey top, black jeans and black boots... you really should get new boots" I pointed out 

He looked down at his very scuffed boots and shrugged 

"They're comfortable" he spoke 

"Maybe we should get you something of color. Perhaps something yellow to match you're sunshine personality?" 

"You will never see me in yellow... now shut up and follow me" 

I laughed knowing full well his words were true. 

I followed him through the shopping centre while trying to figure out where he was taking me. 

Suddenly a dress in the shop window caught my eye. I stopped to look at it through the glass. It was a red dress made a silk. It looked so classy with the V-neck and long sleeves. It reached just above the knees of the manikin that was show casing it. 

Since when did dresses amaze me this much?

"The dress is pretty... but you wearing it would make it ten times better" 

I rolled my eyes and turned to look at Tobias who was now stood beside me also staring at the dress. 

I'm sure he's just being nice, there's no need to think too much about his compliment

"Although, I don't think it would stay on you very long" 

He turned to look down at me with a smirk. I audibly gasped before lightly slapping his chest.

"you pig!" 

He laughed at my response and I soon found myself joining in.

"just a little further" he spoke as he continued to lead the way

Two minutes later we stopped in front of a small diner. It looked cute decorated in white and lilac.

Tobias held the door open for me as I walked in behind him. Guess he could be chivalrous when he wanted to be. 

"I wouldn't imagine you coming to a cute little place like this" I stated as we slid into a booth 

"I like milkshakes, sue me" 

"Oh does you're milkshake bring all the boys to you're yard too?" 

He looked across the table at me with a small smile making its way across his face. The smile stayed there for a few moments and I found myself enjoying the view. 

"You're something else" he spoke while flipping the menu towards me

"What do you me-" 

"what can I get for you both?" a woman interrupted 

"A strawberry milkshake please and..." he looked at me to continue 

I quickly glanced over the choices before answering "uh just a vanilla milkshake for me please" 

The waitress nodded before leaving us at the table, she didn't seem too happy. 

I pressed the menu back down on the table and looked up to Tobias who was already staring at me. Oh God, did I have something on my face? 

"What?" I questioned 

"Nothing" 

"You're a weirdo" 

"Takes one to know one" 

"That was a childish response, you're a child" 

"and why are you hanging out with children, Ayanna?" 

I didn't like the accusing tone in his voice. It's not like he's an actual child. 

I watched as Tobias' eyes switched to the door. The rushed foot steps indicated that someone had entered. I watched as his eyes followed the person as they walked through the diner. 

Who's he looking at?

"I'm so sorry I'm late!" 

I recognized that voice. Oh no. 

"Emerald you better have a good excuse" the waitress from earlier spoke clearly annoyed 

"I do. My-" 

"No, I don't have time to hear excuses. I have to leave" 

The women quickly pulled off the apron and grabbed her bag before rushing out the diner leaving Emerald stood very stunned by the till. 

How the hell am I going to get myself out of this one? If she see's me here with Tobias then she will clearly tell Ambrose. 

I'm as good as dead right now. 

"We should probably get going..." I attempted to whisper 

"we haven't even got our drinks yet" Tobias said with a raised brow 

"Uh... well, this thing is..." 

"You don't want your brothers friend to see you with me" 

That's one smart cookie I would like to eat. 

"exactly" 

"come on then" he shrugged as he stood from the booth 

I followed suit and began walking to the door when Emeralds voice caught my attention. 

"but you forgot you're milkshakes" 

I quickly turned around and gasped at the sight in front of me. 

The very tall and brooding Tobias was now dripping in a thick pink liquid. He shivered as the drink dripped off his head and down the back of his neck. 

"You-" 

He went to speak but quickly stopped himself and paused looking back at me. 

In a way I wanted to laugh but with the look on his face I knew it was in my best interest to stay quiet. 

"refreshing enough for you?" Emerald went on to question 

That's when she turned to look at me. She folded her arms as she rested her weight on one leg and watched me with a questioning gaze. 

Mum is that you? 

"Emerald, hey. I didn't know you worked here..." I smiled sweetly 

"You're just as stubborn as you're damn brother but I thought you might be wiser" 

She was looking at me with such disappointment. If she looked this annoyed at me then I wondered what Ambrose would be like when he finds out. 

I grabbed a handful of tissues off the nearest table and handed them to the seething Tobias. 

"sorry" I whispered to him 

"You should leave, you're making a mess on my floor" Emerald told him 

"You better watch out Cartez" Tobias warned before walking to the exit 

"Oh bite me b***h!" Emerald called back 

I looked between the exit and emerald not knowing whether to follow Tobias or stay here with Emerald. 

"Looks like we need to have a talk" 

I guess the choice was already made for me.
